Fair, and I probably should have clarified. I don’t mean to pit them against each other, but in general what are some of the reasons you would buy the Witcher or why you shouldn’t? Likewise, is DMC 5 any good? Just wanting Chronies’ opinions on each cause I hold all your opinions with more weight than I do random internet people.
I dunno about Witcher 3. Not played DMC 5 just watched the stream and still want to play it myself (biased fan).
DMC 5 is:
. Comedic: - the animations, characterizations and byplay between characters as well
. Scenic: - there are places where you free fall and are still collecting those blood orbs at the same time. Monster design is also once again on point. V is also very easy on the eyes. (Yes, that counts)
. Challenging: Also, the monsters outdid themselves, varied attacks and weak points. There might even be one that’s easiest to defeat if you juggle it - could be wrong. In any case, I don’t think any of the fighting possibilities are wasted. (Again, this is from just watching playthrough).
. Replay value: I think every character has an interesting fighting style, though I really just want to play V because he’s a summoner/dollmaster type. The pets do most of the fighting, he basically makes sure to resummon them and stay the hell out of danger. Cutest bit - V must do the finishing blow. ^^ Get past that, you still have a dude with weapon arm (similar to Sekiro) and a guy wielding a motorcyle. Don’t think you could get bored.
. Multiple modes: As per usual with the series. Does Witcher 3 have that too? Dunno.
. Story: Seems to keep the family tale going - which is why I didn’t get a few references, but nothing too off-putting if you just want to play.
. Twins: Enough said. ^^
Well I’ve only watched DMC5 streamed but from what I can tell it’s a good spectacle fighter, it’s not a genre I’m greatly familiar with. I’ll just say that if this is a type of game you’re into then this one is likely to have what you’re looking for.
Witcher 3 is one of my all time favourite games. Though I’m not going to pretend it’s perfect or anything. A lot of people have complaints about the combat, some say it’s too hard, or too boring or too easy. I don’t really think it is any of those things personally, I quite enjoy the way the game does combat. Sure it’d be amazing if we could get an open world game with dark souls combat systems and Witcher’s writing, but I still enjoy what’s here.
I’ve greatly enjoyed all the witcher games, some times despite their flaws, because they’ve delivered something that really appeals to me and that is moral ambiguity and unforeseen consequences to a player’s actions and choices. There’s no light or dark side to align yourself with, everything and everyone is just grey and it is up to you to think through your actions even though you rarely have enough of an idea of the forces at work to even be making decisions.
In addition to all that the world of Witcher 3 is just nice to be in. I’ve played the game for 250h+ and part of that is because I don’t use fast travel, I like navigating my way through on horse back.
I also use a couple of mods that removes the mini map and all the “points of interest” markers on the map so you can explore and find them yourself. I would strongly recommend removing map markers for your first play through even if you want to keep the minimap open.
I can’t think of a reason anyone wouldn’t want to play Witcher 3 other than if you feel the time investment sounds too much for you. You might not be putting my kind of hours in but you’d still be looking at 100-130h, but then again that would also be almost all quality content in my opinion.
Thanks for that! It really sounds right up my alley. Both games appeal to me in different ways for sure.
I’ve got a hard choice to make it seems.
Geralt is sexier than Dante. You’re welcome, enjoy The Witcher.
Wticher 3 no questions asked really While DMC 5 looks great you just cant beat Witcher 3. It’s amazing and that beats just great DMC 5.
Ima just disagree here…
Geralt has a whole ‘dad’ thing going, but that just doesn’t do it for me.
Also, which Dante we talking here?
Treason! Sacrilege! What lies are these?!
DMC5 Dante has a pretty heavy dad vibe going too, he’s pretty old in that game. DMC5 has more on offer on the sexy side though, you’ve got your pick of hot young stud guy, emo weakling or aging dad, there’s also a cat and a bird if that’s more your pace.
While you have some options for how you want Geralt to look, he’s still just the one guy.
You got a REALLY good chuckle out of me with that one.
Not Alighieri because he was the one that devised Elmo’s abode and therefore he is a demigod. I’m talking about the depressed kid with the giant fish chopper.
The truth which you refuse to see. pets your rage
Literally giggling my head off.
I appear to have unleashed something from you guys. Laughing way too hard at this.
I think considering what the games have to offer and what games I already have I’ll go with Witcher III. I’m out tonight though so I’ll probably buy it tomorrow.
Be sure to get GOTY , both expansions are increasibly great and worth the money.
Straight up, Portal 1 and 2 are like, games that need to be played before you die. Especially Portal 2, but Portal 2 is better if you play Portal 1, both because it is a direct continuance of it, but also cause it SEVERELY improves in graphics, gameplay, writing, narrative, etc. so it becomes an “upgrade” rather than just “regular” good game.
For sure. It’s only a 3 dollar difference anyways.
Geralt’s sexy behind wins once again! Let us know what you think of his gorgeous abs the game later!
Have fun, you’re in for an amazing ride!
Yeah although that’s now delayed cause when I looked today the sale had apparently ended. So a longer wait again for me I guess.
No worries, there’ll be a christmas sale in 3 weeks.
That’s what I figured so I wasn’t too worried. Gives me time to play Witcher 2 andFFXIV
