The World Through Your Eyes

Aww congrats on your new snails. Do you know what kind they are?

Also Deep Breath technically snails are hermaphroditic…

LOVE DARTS were used!

Thank you!

These are the Japanese Trapdoor snails.

I do believe these actually have distinctive male/female individuals and are not hermaphrodites… But please let me know if I am wrong.

This seemed to have been the action that led to the babies… They were tangling for a little over a day before they went their separate ways… (It was about 10-11 days prior to the live births.)

I knew some of the freshwater snails had distinct sexes, but the majority should be hermaphroditic. However, I am not entirely sure. about the Trapdoor snail. Viviparidae the family of the Trapdoor snail is simply noted for having live birth, but it doesn’t mention them being an exception to this rule.

Also, research has noted that love darts are specific to the terrestrial snails.

It’s possible that they change to and fro… The reason I wrote what I wrote above was due to the fact that when we got the snails, we were trying to figure out why some had straight antennae and others had one that was curved. Apparently the males have the antenna that’s curved on the same side as the sex organ.

I need to maybe do some more specific reading to find out whether or not they are actually hermaphroditic…

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

I am sorry to hear that. Fortunately the day only lasts so long and is very finite. I hope something else brightens your day or perhaps we just have to wait for the clock to strike midnight.

I was just thrilled to live in a world where love darts existed and I wanted as many animals as possible to have them…

Welp, I am off to learn some more genetics. I may salvage this day yet

Soft snow, cold snow
Heavier than you think
Pretty snow, slippery snow
Up to the waist you sink.

(Hope it’s not that bad this year @delenn13) Stay safe

Just got home, driving about 6 hours for a trip that should normally be 3.5 hours from my parents house back home.

They had about half foot of snow when we left, then further west we went, the less snow it was, until we just arrived at home and we have about an inch of icy/frozen rain stuck to everything…
