Thanks @markwr Prayers are good.
@DontBeSilly Sorry for your luck.
@Pylinaer Ditto for you
@carvalho20ptc Thanks for the good vibes. Sorry to hear about your mom. Tell her I am praying for her.
@GDBringer I used to watch all the olympics until 2002. Then…
I’ve often wondered, if they can have pairs’ figure skating, why can’t they have apples or bananas figure skating. (pears figure skating). I guess it’s just a “figure” of speech. Go figure.
Prayers are now on the wing to you.
Oh… That doesn’t instill confidence. If it’s anything like the AAA loot systems then that seriously devalues this potentially-someday-a-game. I haven’t bothered to look, as Star Citizen is a crowd fund joke to me at this point.
That is just the system they chose to bring loot into the world, nothing related to loot boxes if that’s what you are referring to. Basically just loot being generated at the time, the Quantum system handles the loot table and then the loot poofs into existence when encountered instead of loot already being in the world.
I have seen this so many times in my 7 years of backing this project and it still baffles me lol. Sure they havent been perfect on development, but what studio is. Just different with a crowd funded project because you see the full development where as AAA games you don’t hear much about until it is close to release. If you look at other game development projects like RDR2, there is nothing very concerning with how long SC is taking. They have even improved to releasing quarter updates, although recently getting a little behind but that may be due to Covid type issues which have delayed almost all other studios as well. I think too many people are used to games having big publishers and/or investors that want to rush projects before they are ready that they think SC should have released already. I am still happy waiting for an amazing game that will come out when it is ready. Not to mention it is quite an enjoyable game as it is, nothing like Chronicles of Elyria which was a complete scam.
No, I’m referring to Borderlands-esque loot tiering.
It’s original planned release date was in 2014. It is now 2021. It’s been in development for 11 years and is in what appears to be early Alpha. AFAIK there is a single solar system at this point.
I’m waiting for it to actually release before I put money towards it. At the current apparent rate it seems like they are moving, it’ll be another 10 years before it’s done.
Like, what target date have they actually hit?
It’s a joke because it’s so far past initial expectations it’s more worthwhile forgetting about it and ignoring it until they actually release the thing. I’m pretty sure I went 4 years without thinking about it and when I went and looked it up it appeared they had gotten hardly anything done.
That being said, if you are happy supporting and waiting for it, more power to you.
This is gold. lol thank you, thank you.
Like Figure skating???
Edit:
Well since Delenn moderator changed her own post so that there’s no record of what was originally posted, this is now pointless. Have a good day everyone.

I believe this is something often referred to as “casual racism” it’s funny because Chinese words some times sounds like words in other languages!
Except of course 黃福興書 +(局 not shown) should probably be read something like “Huángfúxìng shūjú” according to google translate, keep in mind that X in Cantonese is a shi-like sound. In no way would it be pronounced like “wrong fucking”. Well we’ll just have to misrepresent things a little so we can laugh at them funny “foreigners” naming their shop, in Hong Kong, something silly when read in English.
But I mean it’s just a joke right, shouldn’t fault anyone for just having a little harmless fun among friends based on shared ignorance.
I don’t think there’s anyone “joking” or “misrepresenting” things dude. If anything, it’s on the shop owner for not doing their due diligence when preparing the phonetic transcription while ordering their store sign.
If this is an authentic sign, then that’s on them, and nothing wrong or racist finding it funny that a word in another language (regardless of whether it was transcribed incorrectly or not) is an insult or has whatever else meaning in another language. It’s like me not being able to help it to find it funny (me and all the Dutch-speaking in the audience, as has been pointed out plenty in Lirik’s chat) whenever I see ( LUL ) in Twitch chat given that lul means dick in Dutch.
how the hell do you come away with “misrepresentation” ??? the frikkin sign literally says what it says (it has nothing to do with words sounding like words, and this is strengthened by your own explanation of how the transcription is actually totally wrong, so if anyone is guilty of “misrepresentation”, it would be the store owner themselves.)
i’m a bit surprised by your take on this, honestly (seems kinda shortsighted coming from u)
also, in order for something to be racist, it must be inherently linked to something being “perceived” or “portrayed” as being inherently inferior or superior because of race, and i personally think something completely random like a word sounding like a funny word in another language simply cannot fall under that definition. The fact is that the English-speaking person (provided they have a minimum of insight and intellect [something I’ll admit many racists lack, though there are plenty of highly intelligent racists as well ofc]) will usually also be aware that there might be plenty of English words which sound funny or inappropriate in Chinese or any other given language
Even though it’s on the sign, it’s just the fact that it’s taken into another language and then made into a joke. There’s a set way that Cantonese pronunciation is set into the alphabet for pronunciation purposes, so it’s not like they had any other way to spell it. It wouldn’t really be a joke without taking into English and then saying it out loud.
I went on Google and there was a Chinese person writing on their blog wondering why this was funny, because this has been all over the internet. And likewise, when I was reading the Chinese and canto spelling, I had no idea why it was funny. It was only when sounding it out loud trying to say that name and thinking in English did it make sense. Though I figured it had something to do with the FOOK in the middle of the name there.
If you look at the individual words/characters in Chinese and then map them over to Canto sounds then the spelling kind of just comes up, there’s not really any options, at least I don’t think so.
Either way though, it’s something that can be considered more or less okay now, but in a few years, probably considered Non PC. It’s definitely potentially offensive and you have to consider the fact that a lot of people use these words, this is just a name. There’s other people who use the same name, it’s quite a nice name, if I might add…
Different people who used or use this name currently, just through a google search:

https://baike.baidu.com/item/黄福兴/21334
https://www.linkedin.com/in/福兴-黄-22a851b1/?originalSubdomain=cn
I don’t think they would find it very funny to know there are bunch of people out there making fun of their name all of the time for a completely nonrelated reason.
Thus it’s just like many other things that have been taken away from normal accepted speech. Intentionally or not, the fact that this kind of humor that is at the expense of others, I think it’s better to avoid.
It is my thread…
I’ll try to learn to skate a fig-ure “eight” … right after I “ate” a “fig”.
