@Amyrakunejo Have you checked into the local Salvation Army or GoodWill? Or Local schools? Not sure about the pandemic requirements there but I know schools used to offer PC Tech courses that fix older PCs and give them away. Could, also, check your local Buy and Sell sections on Fakebook. They usually know about free local sites too.

couldn’t it be possible for you to save/get a raspberry Pi and do your stuff on that? 
I feel for @Amyrakunejo. If not for my friend/ex-neighbour being so nice, I wouldn’t have this laptop to use at all. He even fixed it up really well after the hard drive (which was plenty old in the first place) died. I did pay him a little something, from gratitude if nothing else. Gas money I guess, but still a lot less than trying to buying even a 2nd hand laptop myself.
People put forward some interesting options here that wouldn’t be an option for me, esp. @sewcraftyme. I hope something helps, Amy. Without my online friends, I’d be hella isolated and the depression would be so much worse.

@delenn13 Most thrift stores don’t have anything like that, at least, not around here; I don’t live in NC like Clint Basinger/LGR does, so there’s no ‘Lucky Rock’ GoodWill with decent stuff like that around here. Mostly clothes and shoes, not in my size! 
@Gnuffi Someone inquired if I would like to have their old Pi, but they NEVER got back with me (EDIT: BAD KEYBOARD). That would be about the only way I’d get one at this point, so yeah. No saving money here; I’m in the red right now because people steal from me and I can’t do anything about it.

I’ve seen this one in archdaily before it was finished… I’d say it’s pretty bold design and we need more stuff like this to break the stale habitat of the stores

So, I looked it up, and found that there’s like, nothing on offer locally and requests for unrelated everything else, and so few of them, that I know I’d be wasting my time.
So, yeah…if I’m to get a new or gently used, it’ll be OFFLINE, because guess what? eBay, BLAMAZON, and all them, they don’t accept cash and coins, AND THAT’S ALL I HAVE ACCESS TO. I REALLY AM IRRITATED BY PEOPLE TELLING ME TO BUY SHIT ONLINE WHEN I CAN’T!!! I don’t even have money on Steam and have missed the past three, four sales because of the fact that I am VERY AND UNDESERVEDLY UNDERPRIVILEGED.
Enough, is enough.

I have used free cycle for years. I have, both, given and taken from the site. I got an almost new Barbie bike for my niece. She loved it and once she grew out of it. They posted it back on Freecycle.
