Dont get me wrong, Dead Cells is good, but i really surprise with the big number of people out there are who have 40k coins and willing to do it!
What about you, what are you gonna do with 40k coins?
(I know i have some typos, you can comment how to corrected it below! English is not my first language! )
Well to be very honest with you, it’s not a big surprise.
The game has never been in a bundle, nor significantly discounted (e.g. 50%+ off). The game also recently increased in price, still does regular (big) content updates and is still very popular. Those are of course always factors that we take into account when it comes to coin prices. I actually was in favor of increasing the coin price even more.
@ComNguoi, exactly what @Madway wrote. Not to mention, you can always hold on to the coins if you don’t like any of the current coin shop games. You can use them in the future too. This is a lot better than buying a game and getting a preset free game like so many other places. The freedom of choice is pretty nice.
If you’re the reason that Dead Cells was available then good work. Never expected something like that and even though I missed it there’s hope for the future. Although stay away from price hike votes!
Are there any games that have been on the coin shop, past or present, where you’ve been surprised how quickly, or conversely how slowly, they’ve sold? Anything which you thought was a sure fire hit but hasn’t had the demand you anticipated?
Whereas for me, I haven’t been around long enough to accumulate enough coins no matter what… Not to mention that I had spent pretty much everything I had…
Every game we put in the coin shop is a team effort.
I’m still amazed that Minion Masters hasn’t sold out. But I might be biased because I’ve put so many hours into it and still enjoy it on a weekly basis.
I was amazed too about the speed that Dead Cells converted, especially given the fact that I knew how many people had that many coins and the amount of copies we’ve put in there.
What games we get in the coin shop depend on a lot of factors - but the main factor is quality (e.g. is it fun to play). After that other factors such as price, lowest historical price, amount of times a game has been in a bundle, if the game is still actively receiving updates, what Steam features does it have come into play.
Games such as Garfield Kart and Mini Metro were solid hits that I never expected to go so fast, judging from the buzz they generated here, Reddit and other channels. I also really liked The Bug Butcher in the coin shop, but that had to do with the fact that I was in involved (prior to joining Chrono) in porting that project from PC to Xbox and PlayStation.
I feel that every game we put in the coin shop is fun to play, a hidden gem, or a game that is worth your time checking out. Fair enough, we can’t please everybody because games come in so many different forms and not everyone might like the same genre but I feel that there is a good mixture to cater to everyone.
40k was cheap for Dead Cells, unbelievable actually they let it slip for that low considering everything RaccoonV mentioned about sales/discounts/bundle
-would have jumped on it in a heartbeat for 100k if i had the coins and not had bought all those other games
Thanks for the detailed and considered answer. Whilst we know that there’s a team working behind the scenes, it’s much easier to ascribe actions to those of you who interact with us on the forums, so feel free to bask in redirected glory.
I’ve been considering how best to anticipate what might feature on the coin shop, or even main site, and I’ve come to the conclusion that if I watch your game library with eagle eyes I might get an early hint! And whilst I know that I’m prone to a grumble now and then, I certainly appreciate the effort you guys put in to putting stuff on the coin shop and as daily deals, as I’m sure does everyone else.
The problem you have now is that Dead Cells is going to be the one to beat…you’ve raised the bar so you’re going to have to tolerate the odd mutter of discontent as we wait for your next stellar acquisition!
they are supposed changing the system so games are not on a first come first served basis anymore, at least for the 1st 24 hours or so anyway i imagine, it sucks that you missed out on a games because you didn’t check the shop within a few hours of them being added. im not sure what the holdup is however its supposed to have been coming for a while now
That’s the first I heard about this. I know there’s been a lot of talk previously about experimenting with the coin shop and potentially change things around. But I’ve never seen anyone say that any definite changes are in the works. Would you mind sourcing that claim for me, please?
