Although since it’s nigh on impossible to cross set trade with any measure of success or parity unless you’re buying cards to complete your set you’re going to have a fair idea of whether those that you have are worth hanging on to.
what i meant was, the other years the cards expired on sale end date
which meant with just a 24 hour hold, you cold not trade the last day collected cards to make a badge, -even if you had enough/the right ones to add up, because there simply wasn’t enough “minutes” left
now with the expiration date pushed, people with trade holds, can use their last day cards in whichever form, trade, market, or gem crush, at their own leisure
(i know you don’t get trade holds if you have authenticator, token setup etc, -but still nice with decent expiration date now for those accounts that dont, and at least still no rush for others)
since it’s nice to get used “all” if possible in a decent way, either if enough dupes to make that final event badge, or if scrounging through to find those willing to cross trade event cards in the last days, -or whatever one desires to do with one’s cards
Oh! I wasn’t specifically referring to your comment. Just my experience in the past and what I’ve read other say online when someone asks about IdleMaster. You could go over to r/Steam and randomly drop “IdleMaster” in an existing post and you’d hear no end of it and how ASF is the one-true idle farmer.
i think it might be because of some “myth” about asf being “faster” than IM to “magically drop cards” (algorithm nonsense or whatever) that might stem from this “comparison page”, and then got hyped to ridiculous proportions
-when for most the minutes and seconds are probably pretty even
(i think/pretty sure i read a post on steam forum where someone had tried both, and the actual time difference on single account idling was utterly negligible)
the “complexity” of ASF alone (hell a bunch of systems can’t even just install as is because need prerequisites/specific OS updated files) means that could be more than enough to not make it “better” than asf right there
since i’m gonna bet for the average user, and 1 account idler, simple, single step, “download and run” tips the favour to IM there in their minds
and the ASF diehards are just the regular loudmouths or those that actually benefit from the other multitude of asf functions, for which i’m sure asf would ofc be superior since that is its forte
hell my paranoia with IM is mainly about the ban, with asf it’s a whole other set of concerns, -since i can’t read code, “open source” etc, doesn’t really “help” me much, other than the “words of others” -which ofc → “who’s word can you trust”

Gnuffi, just to satiate my own curiosity…how did you manage to accumulate 141 Steam Awards 2017 cards? Was it all via 1:1 same set trading to get badges (and thus Steam Award bonus cards) or did you buy some in the market place? I can’t get my head around being able to craft around 100 badges just in the past week or so…
Actually…you’ve got a load of cards too! How on earth do I seem to have been shortchanged on the card accumulation front!!!
i got loads from just regular queue and voting
then some from purchase (i bought witcher 3 which netted me like 3 cards alone and a few others before). I think maybe 6-9 total from winter sale store purchase?
and ofc the regular badge crafting -i deliberately save all my “normal” badge crafts for event sales to get bonus cards, and think i had idled/gathered for like 30 crafts there too, 1 craft = 1 bonus card
edit: 33 regular badge crafts to be exact
I’m teetering on the edge of using the marketplace…although If I actually end up buying cards I’m not sure I’ll be able to live with myself.
13 awards = 13 cards
14 queue’s = 3x14 = 42
= 55 in total (I think…correct me If I’m wrong)
Which is a level 4 badge with 7 spares if no additional trading or crafting takes place.
33 from crafts
13 from voting + 42 from queue x2 = butt load/lvl 11 badge
let me know if you need extras to complete that last set, i think i have a few left still after trading with fraggles
I’ve also purchased a fair few too many games. I think this sale is one I might have spent the most at. Also I have a couple friends who just don’t care and give me all their cards.
I’m well short of completing the badge with my leftovers (those numbers in my example were just a calculation, not where I’m at…). I think I’m going to try to go the route of some 2:1 cross trades with some of the sets which have 10 or more cards to collect for a level (which I’ll never bother to collect) and see if that yields any results.
K,
offer still stands. I got my lvl 10 badge icon so don’t care much about cards further, (tbh quite unsure how the 11th even got crafted lol), so if you strike out and need some spares just msg me, /until my remaining “supply” lasts
for once i stayed within/below budget, which i’m sorta glad about
-even if last minute spur of the moment Witcher 3 purchase pushed it a fair bit up there lol
(due to several mentions/reminders in the “new years thread”, making me want it “naow” )
Witcher 3 is freaking sweet
wouldn’t know yet… spent my time graphics and options tweaking etc so far (wtb fps for squishy gpu)
-dose cut-scenes tho
I always sell my duplicate on the market and then I buy the cards that are missing, have 1-2 euro in my steam wallet that is profit from selling cards (and are my budget for buying and crafting badges). But will see about STM, maybe better in the long run.
But for now I’ve gotten rid of all my Steam Awards cards, was able to get a lvl 3 badge
technically you will always lose money doing this, since you buy the cards for more than you receive for selling
even if a card costs 0.08 and you sell the same card for 0.08 (or whatever market value) you result in a net loss because of the cut % market takes off your share; 0.08 sell = 0.06 received - 25% loss. Cards sold for 0.04 only net you 0.02 cents = 50% loss (even if still only 2cents lost.)
The % cut “fluctuates” depending on set price, at X low price “%cut” is high -then it lowers out/“fixed” X cents in increments until able to do a “consistent” 15% cut(calculated from a $currency price i believe, 12% for € i think etc)
that’s why same set trading 1:1 is always better “profit wise” to finish a badge, since that doesn’t incur a net loss, (vs using market for "set swapping), leaving you to sell remaining dupes/spares for “full” profit
hell a few cards can at rare times even not be worth trading on market, but will result in slightly higher “profit” if crushed to gems depending on current card price to gem ration and gem market value…
but “always” good/better/best to use trades/STM to swap dupes if crafting badges, -at least to avoid the loss from the steam’s cut if “swapping” via market transactions… and then sell when finished with a badge
So…You won’t get any more cards now , unless you sell or trade. Correct?l
You can still get cards from crafting badges or buying games, for another hour and forty minutes.
