This song makes me remember how much I miss the soap opera One Life to Live. Why? Because they actually performed the song on the show.

Certainly not new or anything, but this thing snuck itself into my head today and reminded me of how absolutely amazing a theme it really is.

It’s just so damn good.

The movies and the cartoon were good too of course but this theme is a full on masterpiece.

Recently I’ve been looking back at old “Syfy” shows from around the 2005-2015 period, which seems to have been a time where they were just throwing shit at the wall to see what’d stick, then scrape it all off either way. Now most shows were not amazing, but many were at least interesting and quite frankly I’ll take somewhat lower quality but interesting stories over multi-million dollar cookie cutter snore fest we’re seeing a lot of today.

So most recently finished was Invasion (2005) kind of a hard one to find because there’s a LOT of series and movies with that title. It’s about some sort of aquatic alien(?) life form invading a small town somewhere in the Florida keys under the cover of a hurricane. The show then focuses on the people as they both try to recover from the hurricane damage, rebuild their homes and community while trying to figure out what is lurking in the waters.

I can understand people came off of these shows with a bit of a sour after taste because they are almost always built up hoping for a continuation. The stories are never truly allowed to finish at most you get main story lines wrapped up, sometimes not very well. But at this point it doesn’t matter so much, going into it knowing how much there is to it I think allows for enjoying the ride more and there’s no hopes for a continuation to be shattered.

I was also watching Threshold (2005-2006) also about an alien invasion, but this time focusing on a shady government program for investigating and preventing spread of an alien infection in the population. It’s got Peter Dinklage in it.

They both ended in a way that amuses me a bit because, well usually you want to ramp your stakes up towards a season finale right? But you don’t want to let anyone win outright, what if you do get a 2nd season? So these shows end with the threat at an all time high and only the most dire of story line sort of wrapped up. Which allows my head canon to be failure, the reason the story ends there is because we lost, the invasion is successful even if it had a small setback at the end of the season.

I’m not a great fan of happy endings.

I’m sitting down to watch Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime (BELLE in the English Dub). I’ve been curious about it ever since I saw the trailer 9000 years ago.

Here’s hoping it is good!

It’s a Hosoda Mamoru / Studio chizu work so it ought to be, same people behind Wolf Children and Summer wars… and digimon the movie, well it was directed by Hosoda at least.
