What are you reading, watching and/or listening to?

He did a performance back in the 80’s in West Palm Beach, Florida. It was so funny.

I just love then people hold guitars while their music includes 0 actual instruments.

Not specifically referring to Rick James but just in general . Sure does make my blood boil.

I’ve been sleeping on J.I.D’s talents, apparently. How have I missed this fellow? I mean, I’m glad I finally know and it’s kinda cool I found it out via Arcane, but seriously wish I had known before because he’s got a lot of bangers.

Denzel Curry, too!

wardruna is my soul food

Whenever I listen to Wardruna, I can forget my life for the brief time the song is playing and that’s the greatest, most realistic comfort I can ask for outta this world. I hope they never stop making music.

I’ve been on an unhealthy obsessive binge for the entire Arcane soundtrack, so I’m forcing myself to go back to other songs.

My fall back songs are still kickin’ it though!

I miss the music from before 2010. It was just so much fun. 80s, 90s and early 2000s had it made.

Am I a boomer? Why is it that MOST new music (post 2009) not fun or enjoyable in anyway? It’s like rare if I can find something that’s good out of 10 trillion songs. lol

Humans tend to be open to new impressions up to about age 22, everything we encountered and liked before that cutoff we will like for the rest of our lives. But it’s also very hard for us to really enjoy anything new after that. This is why every generation think that old music was great and whatever the kids are into these days is trash.

I’m not sure if it’s always been the case that the “chart topping” music, the mainstream stuff has always been manufactured and commercial in nature, but it feels like it’s done in a way more cynical way today. You have 10 songwriting credits for any track, people you’ve never heard of who are experts at designing a song for a specific demographic which then passes the performance on to a pretty face and just as many producers and assistants. I think things are a little more by the numbers these days than ever before.

That’s not to say real artists don’t still exist or good music isn’t being made, there’s just way more of everything out there and we have unparalleled ease of access to ALL of it, making it really damn hard to find anything at all. It was easier to find something by flipping through disc racks with the limited selection of your local music store than it is today searching through hundreds of millions of tracks on the internet, both helped and hindered by THE ALGORITHM.

That is all to say, enjoy what you enjoy. You’re partly hardwired to do so and there’s nothing wrong with not liking something, as long as you’re not a dick to those who do about it.

I’m just stuck here listening to the Final Fantasy 6 and Touhou soundtracks on repeat forever.

That’s true, I never really thought about the access thing before. It would definitely explain a lot of it. I mean, I obviously exaggerated it a bit there, there’s a lot of good music that’s come out after 2009, but just felt like before then there were constantly banging tunes of some sort, now it’s all auto-tuned and stuff. I guess it was probably the same then, but I was just with “it”.

I think I’m open to new impressions. Most of the stuff I’ve come to love as much as I have today came late in my life, such as Hungarian music or folk music, I think maybe I’m just really, really, really picky. I definitely can see there’s some cognitive thing about it though, would explain the “Back in my day, we had real music” that every person goes through when they reach that boomer age. :joy:

(Now I wanna listen to FF6 and Chrono Trigger! xD)

I’ll start with this one. T-T

Thankfully remixes are available in abundance so I can listen to a somewhat small selection of source material in endless variations.

OCRemix might just be the best site on the internet.

I’ve loved OCRemix for sooo long. Their collection is amazing, especially their FF collection. Talented artists everywhere, there!

Just finished the latest episode of Hawkeye.

AHEM (SPOILERS)

Two things only to be said…

Yelena is perfect. She’s adorable and funny. <3

Our boy Fisk is back and I’M SO STOKED! He’s probably the best villain in all of the MCU…no, DEFINITELY is the best villain. Such a wonderfully written character. I’m so happy Marvel is bringing the Netflix shows into the canon. So good!

Anyways…

Now back to music! <3

I usually enjoy stuff from Dua Lipa, Twice (very very casually) and The Weeknd in small parts, but I do think the former and latter uses 80s music as inspiration maybe, so I’m unsure if it is because of that part.
I do think there are good music around that are made in this month alone, though the stuff in the Billboard 100 usually would not be a representation of the BEST music, you ever seen the lostwave community? Lots of music are undocumented.

There are a few studios in Sweden, Great Britain, Canada and USA that have their fingers in a lot of the music that reaches the top seller charts from artists and bands that broke through the last 20 years.
And while this have been goin on for a hundred years, there are so fewer people that influences how a big portion of the popular music ends up sounding.

Luckily all you have to do is to search youtube, bandcamp or reddit to easily find something new.

I think pre-2015, I was mostly listening to stuff from the 80s and before. Now I am slowly getting into stuff from the 90s… So I am still a bit behind the ball on this music appreciation business.

I think as I aged, I have become much more tolerant of things I maybe didn’t like right away, and this had acclimated to a lot more newer music, styles, trends albeit older by the time I get to them, and foods as well. Staying with open-minded about most things have been good for adapting to situational changes as well. I will stop here at my digressions from the main topic.
