What are you reading, watching and/or listening to?

I’m watching the Kingdom of Heaven.

If only the Abrahamic religions could truly live in peace.

Just watched the pilot for Mare of Easttown on HBO Max.

Wow. Wonderful performances all around, and very sad too. Hopefully they run through the mini series with the same sort of quality.

Watching Tangled again and it always gets me just how cruel Gothel is. You can tell in ways she cares, but it’s almost like an object casting a shadow. It’s not real. The part where Rapunzel helps her up the tower with her hair especially. Rapunzel might have lived her life constantly hearing that kind of stuff, really sad. :frowning:

EDIT

This is THE way to listen to the songs in this movie. They match on a whole new level.

EDIT

Just finished Wonder Egg Priority. Wow. What a waste of time. Great anime, don’t get me wrong, but doesn’t get an ending whatsoever. An OVA comes out in June, but I know it won’t answer the multiple questions asked throughout the series. Eros? Thanatos? Frill? Is death, or suicide, a creation of these things? If so, how? If not, what connection does it have to it?

Ugh. So annoying. I hate it when anime does this. Almost as disappointing as Darling in the FranXX was.

EDIT

I just finished watching an older movie called Children of a Lesser God. That actress was incredible. I wonder if she won any awards for it, because she damn well deserved it.

Spoilers and Complaints

Also…the movie was cute until he kept pressuring her to do things she didn’t want to do. Then it got dark and creepy. Coercing her into sex for example even though he knows she was sexually abused as a kid, and refusing to leave when she asked him to (when she was naked). This story should have been about her and her learning to stand without the acceptance of others, but they made it about her changing to fit James’ life. They even reconcile at the end.

Nothing about her was inherently revealed to be okay, only that she was in some kind of wrong for not wanting to fit into the speaking world. Like what the hell…

EDIT

Okay. Well apparently the woman who played the character really is deaf and has been the only deaf person to win an Academy Award. Well good for her! She was incredible in the movie.

EDIT

Okay, I feel like I should further clarify just in case. He’s not some rapist or something, but his insistence upon her insecurities often looks predatory. He’s got good intentions, for sure, but his intentions often made him over-look her in many ways. In trying to convince her he doesn’t want her to speak, despite numerous times asking her to and then promising not to ask again, he gets angry that that’s what she thinks he wants her to do. Instead of understanding why she feels that way, largely because of him, he turns it back on her for thinking it.

Stuff like that.

I started watching “Ascendance of a bookworm” yesterday, and finished the 2nd season this morning. Turned out to be a truly excellent isekai anime that I just couldn’t put down once started. Looking at the title card of it it doesn’t look very interesting, bunch of children in super saturated colours looking awfully happy about nothing in particular. Clearly it’s a silly kids show.

Well it might actually be suitable for children too, but it does also manage to tell a very engaging story about hardships and overcoming them, with just enough fantastical elements and ridiculousness to keep things amusing.

I’ve been meaning to watch the show for some time, but still haven’t found a good time thus far.

Started reading this manga again, now that I have the full collection of volumes.

Ooo… nice one, I have only seen the anime, would be interested in checking out the manga at some point.

The anime does not cover all the manga, because when it came out the manga was still ongoing.

And like it’s always the case, the books are way better than the anime.

I sort of anticipate that being the case, since the anime did feel very much incomplete in terms of story development. I like things that have a conclusion, and this one just didn’t.

Anyway, I do usually prefer books to movies, so I can see that in the same light, as in the manga being better than the anime. Hopefully I can get my hands on the full set at some point and go through them too!

Nevertheless, have fun!

Speaking of incomplete works, the mangaka behind Berserk, Kentaro Miura, passed away earlier this month. So that’s a master work that wont see a conclusion. Considering the massive effort he put into every single panel of that thing I wonder if anyone would be able to shoulder the task to finish it for him.

I saw that on the news, and was sad about that. Berserk was indeed fantastic, and I had followed it for quite a long time. Afterall, it had been running for 30+ years.

Hopefully he will have had some thoughts or a general outline written down so that someone might be able to take it over. Kind of like how the Wheel of Time series was completed…

Even if not though, it’s worthwhile to read.

@YQMaoski Claymore consists of 27 volumes total. They’re usually around 7$ to 10$, so they’re cheaper than a lot of mangas out there.

As for Berserk, it’s my favourite manga. I have 35 volumes already. The art and story are amazing.

It’s kind of been a running joke that Miura would die before finishing it, and now it’s real. Such a shame, and he was too young still. I woke up on that day to those sad news of his passing.

I don’t know if his students will finish it up. However the case may be, it sure won’t be the same without him.

It’s such a shame that Mare of Easttown is a limited series. You really see that in the last two episodes of every mini-series, and this is no different. Do not get me wrong. The last episode was great, but it was often dull due to dealing with crap that honestly wasn’t intriguing whatsoever or helpful to the story. That is to say…every non-Mare moment and every non-case moment.

I hope they finalize the show well though.

EDIT

Oh my gosh, Eden came out on Netflix! It feels like it has been years since I saw the first trailer. Gotta go watch it, hope its good!
