I’ve always loved the Freak Kitchen mv. It’s so easy to tell what Disney movies he worked on.
for Osamu Kitajima, especially his old stuff.
Been listening to 2 mellos tribute album to Jet set radio. I would probably have a stronger connection with it, if i had played the game. But it’s still great in it’s own right
That’s my fave.
For reading material. I’m still sluggishly going through Ready player one. Not because i dislike it, i’m generally just slow because film & games catch my eye better. With it being a more appealing visual medium.
But yeah, i like it.
Tv (aka Netflix )
The Bachelor party vegas. I guess somebody will find this funny, but if I have to care about your characters jokes,
then your characters should have great chemistry. So i did not like this, just go watch Euro trip instead.
Netflix’s Violet Evergarden.
Spoilers
I absolutely love it. Which is also THE keyword for the series, love.
This got quite personal, i related with Violet in many ways like, her speaking pattern and her fight with understanding emotions. That eventually built up to me almost audibly sobbing at episode 11. The animation is also consistently gorgeous, that’s a plus.
Finished Devilman: Crybaby (a few days ago actually)
I’ve never experienced anything Devilman before so the ending was not expected, I was actually just expecting the usual good guys win ending.
The animation started to get fairly lazy however, probably to save the budget for the final episode I’m sure but still disappointing to see, especially in a 10 episode anime. One thing that got me kinda confused is a certain french fry haired guy and how there’s another two people that look almost exactly the same. I originally thought they were all the same person. Messed up some later plot elements.
Definitely recommend it however. Just take it with a grain of salt.
Where do you guys stay up to date on new anime? I started watching TV dramas instead and lost track of anime, probably around a year or two ago?
I for the most part follow a bunch of different anime youtubers,(Digibro, Pedantic romantic, the anime man) with varying tastes and backgrounds. Or else i’ll take a look and dig through the mountain of mainstream anime on My anime list. And if i want a totally unbiased and blind try at one then AniChart is a really solid place to go.
Also sidetrack, i saw Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood(of what i assume is all seasons) was on Netflix and wondered. Should i watch that? It’s a massive time commitment, but also seems to be one of the most universally loved animes. Probably should.
Yes! It’s great, and suitably different from the non-Brotherhood version. Would recommend both and at least a sample of the movies.
Would also really, really recommend The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Baccano!, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Beck and, if you’re feeling bold…Hikaru no Go.
Recommend me things I haven’t seen (I have a huge backlog including popular series like Stein’s Gate and Attack on Titan, which explains why I haven’t added them, but am aware of them…nevertheless assume total ignorance).
Isn’t Brotherhood a retelling(Correct me if i’m wrong) of the first series? People say it’s better in many ways over the prior and you should ignore that one and go to Brotherhood.
Have heard of most of them, they are on the mental list. Unsure about Hikaru no Go. Sports anime?
For recommendations…
One Punch Man,(of course)
Made in Abyss and Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou/girls last tour. Both adventure with adorable main characters and dark underlying tones.
Ore Monogatari!! if you are feeling romance-y with the cutest couple ever.
You also have a giant list of finished anime compared to me.
As you can see I sort of stopped watching anime in January last year so anything since then won’t be on my radar. Thanks for the recommendations.
The two FMA animes are different because (I believe that I’m correct in saying this) the first series followed the manga but then went beyond it and had to make it’s own plot up. However, Brotherhood was made after the manga had finished and so could tell the true story. FWIW I enjoyed both but if you’re going to do one then do Brotherhood.
I do not generally enjoy sports drama sort of media but Hikaru no Go is really good. There are some sports anime that transcends being sports anime and becomes something greater. Hikaru is one of those along with ping pong the animation, Chihayafuru, Saki and Keijo!!! though the two last ones mostly because they’re so absurdly stupid they’re hilarious.
@xist so I checked your list and since you enjoyed Hikaru I am pretty certain you’ll find Chiayafuru to your liking. Here follows a few other notable entries that your list seem to lack:
- Puella Magi Madoka Magica
- Kemono no souja Erin
- From the New World
- Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
- Higurashi no naku koro ni
- Nana
- Bakemonogatari (+all the surrounding series)
- Mushi-shi
- Azumanga Daioh (Since you HAD watched Lucky star)
ok this is going to turn into a mile long list I’ve had to prune this a bit, but there’s a selection of some of my 10 rated series with a bit of variety. If you want more suggestions of any specific genres then let me know what sorts you like and I’ll work something out.
Thanks
That’s not on my list? I’ve actually seen that…the anime where a bunch of girls eat cream horns and talk about nonsense? Yep. Done…not sure how that’s not on there…wait a sec…it is!
Do you have a MAL page so I can scan it for omissions?
Yeah the search just sucks. I’m redoing the list with using chrome’s own search now.
@xist There I’ve filled the list up a bit more and removed the ones you did appear to have.
And in order to keep on topic, the last thing I watched was Princess Principal. Weird alt european history spy story, for some reason the Berlin wall ended up in the UK instead and some weird metal orbs lets you fly so that was pretty fun. They tried their hand at nonlinear storytelling which I’m not certain really worked out for the best. It’s nothing exceptional but then so few things are.
Good point.
Watched You Were Never Really Here…“A traumatized veteran, unafraid of violence, tracks down missing girls for a living” makes it sound really good, but in reality I found it to be a bit too close to “art” than what I’d usually go for in a film. It was ok but I’m not sure how much I’d recommend it.
Also finished @Punkster’s recommendation of Rob Grant’s Incompetence. That was an enjoyable and humourous read which I enjoyed, although perhaps the ending could have been a little better…at least It wasn’t how I saw the story going. Still worth a read though, and I’m a big fan of Grant’s wry sense of chuckle. Have now moved on to Steven L. Kent’s - The Ultimate History of Video Games: From Pong to Pokemon - The Story Behind the Craze That Touched Our Lives and Changed the World . It’s good so far…
Sent you a friend request there.
Accepted!
So are we now the anime friend club? If so, here you go.
Not much to look at, but yeah.
Request sent.
I appear to be employing a rather consistent username regimen compared to everyone else!
Sorry to have ignored your earlier advances to share anime lists. I don’t use MAL myself as I much prefer anidb.net and my list of anime is not for public perusal.
I prefer to tailor recommendations to the person rather than just telling everyone to try and go by what I’ve watched already. I’m told I’m respected here now so I couldn’t possibly let you all see the ton of absolute shite I’ve watched and enjoyed over the years. : )
Sent it one also, and btw, talking about clubs, that’s a thing in MAL. If anyone got the courage to start one for chrono.
I haz a few, so the raccoon spies can’t track me down easily.
@Fraggles It’s ok if you watch hentai, we don’t really mind.
omg quick guys flag this!!!
