The OT Thread!! Post Here When You Feel The Need!

yup that was my guess, as with many things, before it’s even shipped, someone in the US/EU likely already own it
i can’t remember the exact produce/example, but i remember from class a topic on how some stuff is more sparse and expensive, in the country it’s produced, than it is in the US/EU where it’s exported to, which just seemed absolutely bonkers :confounded:

also think a guy (can’t remember his handle), mentioned a similar thing/example with certain electronics, in China i think it was, being weirdly highly priced considering it/most was manufactured right in the shop’s “backyard”

something’s aren’t “just” changed to fit the price of the local market tho
it’s kinda funny but Coca Cola was kinda kicking themself in the butt for years because they couldn’t get away with using ex the same soft drink formula in EU, having to use actual sugar, than their corn syrup US version, which was actually more expensive for them/providing lower margins :joy:
then you also have ex the Mars/Milkyway switcheroo i think was mentioned here on the forum recently?
Likewise i think Skittles is something that falls in the switcheroo category, where 1 colour/taste in EU/UK isn’t the same as in US, (because we all know they don’t have as refined palate as us :smirk:)

but yea, 100% a big part is also cost/market price. To the scary degree, probably a disgustingly good example could be the ultra greedy feckers adding melamine to milk in china. Or where a product is unsafe/unhealthy by any half brain standard, so it gets pulled from production (in the west) once “discovered” - but continues to be sold in lesser developed countries where they have fckall regulations or standards for their inhabitants…

it still amazes me to this day there are people that can without in twitching or flinching or remorse, take something, look at it, determine “yup this sht ain’t fit for human or animal use”, and then ship it to some underdeveloped nation or poor segment of the populace. - And unless it’s downright highly illegal “at the time”, fat chance in hell they’ll ever have to worry about any punishment :face_vomiting:

woa… that turned into a rant rather quickly there :flushed:

Rising global temperatures means that the area where fickle plants like coffee and chocolate can be grown shrinks. Also areas that previously gave good crops now give a better value for the farmers growing other crops and taking the years required to get good produce in the elevation that these plants will thrive in now may not be economically feasible.
In turn the commodity prices for chocolate have been increased 3-5 times of what it was during its low period 20 years ago. And of course the rich countries like the US, EU and japan buys the best chocolate, therefore if you want to start selling mass produced chocolate in a new market today you reduce the amount of chocolate and replace it with sugar or milk powder.

Anyway, chocolate mousse is easy to make. Heres a video of a famous chef demonstrating:

so what you’re saying is, if i wait a couple of years i can grow my own chocolate bars in the backyard ? !

Your best best is probably to mail order some baking chocolate (the powder kind), and of course who knows what an Aldi would stock if one were to open around you. Nevertheless, you will probably have to do some ingredient mixing and preparing on your own.

If your backyard is within 10° north and south of the equator and an elevated position. Then yes. Supposedly cacao can be grown in a greenhouse, as long as its both hot and humid.

unfortunately since it’s been a while since Mr Moose had visited our glorious civilized country, and only used to the lesser technological advances in travel means of our northern brethren, bicycles and automobiles, the poor fella was quickly trounced by a train :pensive: (i think it was at least)

we also had wolf, very briefly, until some moron decided to (completely premeditated) execute it because it was “to close for comfort”, being a hundred kilometers or some such from his farm
^worth to note that despite having 100% protected status, and potential 2 years prison sentence for killing; he received no penalty… well, he did get his hunting license revoked for 2 years (not his rifles tho) :+1:

luckily they seem to be thriving a bit more now, lots of lovely sheeps to munch on in our peaceful innocent countryside

Gotta love those morons who try to grow sheep in a middle of a forest and then complain about wolves … we have plenty of those down here.

Further down here in South Africa sometimes we get asked if we ride lions to work/school.

We did. But then they took over:

When this happens, kill me. There will be no reason to live.

There needs to be karma, because I can’t die knowing abusers of any sort do not suffer for their evil in this world. A cruel sentiment, I know, but what gets thought is made by others.
