The OT Thread!! Post Here When You Feel The Need!

Nah, that was just me thinking silly. After all, I’ve never seen a dead gnome - must mean they’re immortal.

Ugh, talk about a rough day where everything goes wrong. I sometimes have these kind of days too, and while it’s easy to think that your life will go down the drain always remember that tough times don’t last for long.
Stay safe and stay well.

And when Gnuffi died, he found out Heaven was out of angel wings, so he was stuck as a wandering spirit on Earth. While wandering, he bumped into another rounded support railing.

Audible is getting rid of the Send this Book feature, which allows people to send a total of 10 copies of any book for free to someone who has never received a free book before. This was an incredible feature, and is what got me into Audible. What a travesty it is being removed and I am actually pretty annoyed by it. Return policies were just changed because authors don’t want us to return their books if they are bad, and now we are losing more because of them? But the price is still $15 a month? Wow.

If anyone here hasn’t gotten a free book yet, maybe my library will interest you before the feature is gone. Just lemme know if you want one, but I will need your email and you must have never gotten a free book from someone before.

Well, that’s a downer. But this how capitalism works.

I’d like from Dune, please. I’ll send you my e-mail through PM.

It certainly is. $15 a month is too much to ask for out of new customers. The free book allowed people to test out how they might like audiobooks, now a lot of people will just not risk the attempt because it costs so much.

Sent, by the way! Enjoy it, wonderful book!

Lunch dessert showdown:

cheap ass “we don’t call it anything fancy”/generic Dr. Oetker “chocolate mousse” image
vs

“we trying hard to make it seem special af”/50% more expensive Nestlé Gold Crunchy “Mousse” image

Results:
Nestlé -500pts, additional -1000pts for branding, and -100000pts for company still existing: Total -101500^∞
Dr. Oetker +100pts, saved me from hurling +500pts, -1000pts for pizzas being overpriced discount products: Total -400

Winner: image - you’re still going to hell Nestlé :fire::imp:

Yeah why the hell are Oetker frozen pizzas so damn expensive? They’re not even particularly good in my opinion. Something is just plain wrong with their crust.

pls send me some

i’ve been in this country 15 years now, and I’ve never found chocolate mousse for sale here, ever :sob:

love it so much

my mom did make some a few years ago though

It’s not particularly hard to make yourself. You just need egg yolk, cream, sugar, chocolate and a little patience. I’d guess maybe chocolate might be the toughest ingredient to source for you.

I know :joy: my mom has told me that a million times actually

maybe one day, am pretty lazy when it comes to kitchen stuff :joy:

If you have any IKEAs nearby, they sell it:

i checked, says need to be kept refrigerated, don’t think it’d handle shipping all the way there :grimacing:
might also be why i couldn’t (seemingly) find any on amazon

suggests writing a letter to your local Dr and see if he can encourage a batch coming towards the land of eternal sunshine :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

dude, that actually cracked me up good, and surprisingly enough, we do have an ikea not to far away actually, our and the kids’ bedrooms are from there :slightly_smiling_face: pretty expensive here though; it’s funny how i think that stuff is considered pretty low market in Europe but it’s rly high market here

@Gnuffi lol, thx, but yeah, probably not a good idea to actually try to send it over

am still hoping one day they’ll open an Aldi or Lidl here so then maybe those guys sell it here (or chocolate-covered marzipan, or just plain marzipan even [some syrians here sell it fresh, but it’s not the same] or 400 gm M&M’s bags I used to buy as a teen :astonished: [i’ve recently started seeing 100 gm bags here and there, while up till now it was only 50 gm :joy:])

absolutely no idea why Carrefour doesn’t sell that shit here honestly. I guess simply cuz no one sells it and so they assume there’s no market for it or something? They just don’t realize I’d buy it all :joy:

srs, poke Dr Oetker, they are using cow gelatine so i couldn’t find any unfriendly ingredients in it, (which i think is exactly intended because of it), so seems weird no one would market those kinds of products there

honestly some stuff u just can’t find here

u know those whipping cream spray cans? I only recently saw those here in Egypt for the very first time, an Italian brand, and I only very rarely see those in any store since then. It took 15 years to finally see those here

it might also be cuz to make stuff like that that’s actually good, u need to use actually good ingredients (like @Fraggles said, chocolate etc.) and good ingredients are rly expensive cuz they often need to get imported, and then the end price would be rly too high to justify doing it for the few ppl who would actually buy it, especially given most locals here never even heard of it :joy:

i might be dense, i don’t mean to come off ignorant or insensitive in any way, but
how can chocolate be expensive, (i have a guess), when it’s farmed by your “neighbors” ?? :@_@
i’d find it almost half as absurd if you said coffee was considered a luxury expensive item there too
but yea, capitalism is awesome - if you live in the “west” #FellsBad :pensive:

Africa is a lot bigger than it looks like on a map, the Cocoa grown along the west side and south Saharan area is very far from Egypt and most likely all exported by ship straight to Europe. I am pretty certain none of that Cocoa takes the land route through Sahara.

yep, pretty sure that’s how it is

if i want “good” chocolate, i have to get imported stuff, same with a lot of other ingredients. There is local stuff, but it’s shit. If I want good baked goods, it’s crazy expensive here (say i have to pay the same thing you pay in EU, for example) but that makes sense cuz the only way u can get the same quality chocolate bread, for example, (pain au chocolat, no idea what they call that in English, pastry?) is by using the same-quality ingredients, and so u need to import those

and good coffee is quite expensive here too, indeed, but i think that might just be the nature of the beast, same with cocoa actually. They’re saying the world might actually run out of cocoa in a few decades, so the way prices have been raising, it would make sense the richer countries are simply willing/able to offer more/ton, and so neighboring countries simply are unable to even source it in the first place cuz there’s already not enough for everyone to buy it in the first place.

and then there are corporations that set up local factories, say, Nesquick and Snickers and KitKat etc. but by God, even those products, there is a clear difference in taste between the locally produced and the imported product, even though it supposedly is the same product. (but ofc the locally produced is way cheaper, but again, there must be a difference in ingredients to be able to produce it cheaper for the local market, and hence the difference in taste)
