ok you like this more?
Yeah I started the game also today and I dont understand it either
I can live wt that
First off, yikes this is a crazy discussion that I don’t feel the need to add on to. @Fraggles I think you had some good points, same with you @Gnuffi. I’m also just really impressed with how pretty much all of you Chronizens (or whatever our Chrono Community is called nowadays) have stayed civil and calm. Usually these conversations devolve on all sides pretty quickly.
Edit: added a comma.
I am too. Very. Proud. Thanks everyone.
@Gnuffi and @nebula7 already expressed themselves (no pun intended) above about how gender is currently society designation, and we are designated one or another at birth. That is usually dependent on chromosomes, but as already been said, there are genetic anomalies as already been mentioned with, Klinefelter Syndrome (47, XXY), Triple X Syndrome (47, XXX), and there’s one that I would like to point out, called Swyer Syndrome (46, XY, female).
Chromosomes usually dictate sexual organ development. With societal recognition of male and female genders, these are then often associated with male being the individuals with testes (leading to male physical appearances), and females having ovaries (leading to female physical characteristics), with the onset of pubertal hormone changes. But chromosomes do not dictate the mindset and the internal identify of an individual, nor does it affect how someone wishes to express themselves externally to the rest of the world (except often suppressed due to established societal/cultural “norms”).
I realize that I am merely repeating many parts of what you have already said, just thought that perhaps I could try to clarify slightly more.
Expression is only a part of someone’s gender, and as @nebula7 pointed out, there’s gender fluidity as well. The Genderbread Person is merely a tool to help people think about the different aspects of gender, gender identity, gender expression, gender orientation, different forms of attraction, romantic and sexual. The only thing someone is born with is the organs, which many transgendered individuals opt to modify through permanent means, but many also do not. They are comfortable in their bodies and the way they view themselves, they are comfortable in the way that they express themselves, but they face societal constrains on what is expected of them.
A person born female and identify themselves as female, would be of female gender. Whether they decide to express externally by clothing, body-building, etc, is entirely their choice.
That would be a form of transitioning, of a physical nature. Because of the societal norms, transgendered individuals who merely identify as the gender that they are not assigned at birth due to physical organs are also transgender. Whether there is physical transition or not is not required for gender identity.
I agree with you that the percentage is unclear. Perhaps it is less than 1%, for some reason that was what popped up into my head when I started to type, I was not looking up any specific research. I just did look up some more information regarding the transgendered population estimates in the US, it seems to be about 390/100,000 by a fairly recent study, that would still suggest about a million people in the US, which I think we can all agree, is a lot of people.
I think there’s a need to remove ourselves at times from exact and established definitions of words and move toward ideas, that way as to not be bound by certain definitions. Language is constantly evolving, as we all know, some parts faster than others. “Google” used to be a misspelling in English, now spell-check does not even pick up the lower-cased active participle “googling” because it is accepted into everyday use.
All is good, and we tend to repeat each other anyway. How else do we learn from each other and further educate with the knowledge we have gained?
I am completely okay with people disagreeing with me on any or all of the above-mentioned points. These are my thoughts only, and likewise, everyone is entitled to his/her/their own thoughts regarding every massively-dividing and controversial topic. If anything I have written is unclear or needs further clarification, please let me know and I will be happy to try to do so.
You are so eloquent, I feel like I should go back to playing in the mud
Mud Doggos!
sry, i feel i need to jump in on this and voice myself (tho i’m glad the “dispute” is over)
while we have the ability (for some weird reason) to edit other peoples titles as Regular, and it has been used a few times sorta jokingly
-please don’t think you have the right to just change titles you don’t like, even if you think it’s clickbaity or not, or even if it is actual clickbait
-it’s OP’s thread, and an op is entitled to call it whatever they want, and if there is an issue with the naming, you take if up with OP, or if it’s grossly offending to you, you can hail a mod
playing title peekaboo is not what we’re supposed to do despite having the ability as regular, and @nebula7 was entirely on point changing it back the first time, -and as you saw once op(@yoshirules here) learned of your qualms, she had no issue changing it
but please let it be op to OPs in the future
and like @Vindace + mamma @delenn13 said i too i’m am extremely pleased at how well this thread has been handled
big thumbs up to @Fraggles too for a civil discussion with multiple perspectives (wait, can’t actually make emjois <“big”>?)
@All: don’t know if it’s the chronosphere having having a chill effect on people, or just attracts chill wonderful people . -having seen how easily other lesser/small topics frequently goes completely off the rails other places, i’m very happy we could have such talks in calm and civil manner
(hell even in parliament they damn near brawl during lesser debates)
mighty happy to have this place and be here, thx all
So we get that ability for no reason whatsoever? We aren’t supposed to use it, we just get it? Can’t the mods then pls take that ability from us? Is that a bug wt discourse? Are you pulling that from somewhere specifically?
I can answer that…yes, it’s a bug.
@lonin and I had this discussion a few weeks ago when one of thread’s topic got change and I asked if it could be stopped!!!
I agree with @Gnuffi…It’s either the OP or a mods right to do that.
I like it when we do a community giveaway and the original poster is not around to edit the title and we want to change the title for community notification purposes. That’s been the only time I found it useful and nice. Otherwise, I remember one of my previous topics getting derailed and was rather miffed by the title getting changed.
I am in agreement with that reason…It’s a GROUP giveaway so that would make sense.
Gotcha @delenn13, shame on the devs not to fix something this basic lol
btw you quoted Gnuffi as me
I know it doesn’t make sense…but…what can I say.
So…aren’t you an ALT?
I fixed it! Thanks!
Maybe you should send some kind of global PM to let ppl know it’s not meant to be available?
A sticky thread like on the Steam forums? A discobot msg? Unless you are happy to have to explain this to another dozen ppl
Let me think a bit about how to do it to reach the most people… I am working on dinner now…
Everyone’s invited…Hot homemade chilli. Thinking about corn bread in a cast iron skillet!
“weirdly” enough it hasn’t been a too frequent issue/occurrence (to what extent i’ve noticed)
maybe because Regulars aren’t/weren’t aware… -or they managed the awareness or restraint and not mess around with things ?
I’ve significantly upped the requirements for trust level 3, so it should be less of an issue in the future.
I just always figured I would know pretty clearly if there was actually a need for me to change a post’s title.
@delenn13 I thought pretty much all of us were Gnuffi Alts.
