Well, at least it’s fun and weird. I wonder what @Rhyagelle thinks about it.

I think Sony is embarrassing themselves, wasting time and wasting money on insanely stupid FF7 side projects (FF7 Fortnite, really?) to suck all of the money out of fanatical FF7 fans who have been waiting since 1997 for more content.

That’s what I think.

But hey, that’s just Nomura’s tactic.

LOL Thanks. :joy:

But yeah, another battle royale ? As if we don’t have enough of this kind of game already.

Also, FF will now mean both Free Fire and this game.

Another way to view it is that they are using resources they have already made (levels, models, animations etc.) and creating a new product from it.

Iirc that is Square Enix’s doing, not necessarily Sony (maybe). And even still this has been done for years. There’s plenty of FF7 content out there anyway so I do agree there is an excess amount of it.

Sony controls SE decisions. They would have to approve of it, but yea, it is designed by SE and Nomura, shoulda been more clear.

how does sony control sqeenix decisions?

If Sony doesn’t like something, they won’t let it go through? Sony has had a large say in SE since 2001, when Sony bought stakes in Square. Last I checked, they owned about 20m in SE stocks too. And if the rumors are correct, Sony recently acquired them.

In short…if Sony didn’t like what was happening in Square Enix, they would have intervened. At the end of the day, it makes money, so it goes through.

no? Sony never owned squeenix, and it sold off all their shares years ago i think

Nope, they never sold them [the stocks]. They bought even more in August 2020, and now there are rumors they acquired them and will announce it this year.

not sure where you are getting that info from
but brief seach shows sony sold all their shares back in 2014 Why Sony Sold All its Square Enix Shares Revealed - IGN, with 0 mentions of buying more in 2020, and that the recent rumour is seemingly generally reviewed as 4chan nonsense
and sony seeming doesn’t have a place there Shareholder Information|Investor Relations | SQUARE ENIX HOLDINGS CO., LTD.

Well, I don’t know anything about 4chan, but I read it on Gamebyte, IGN etc, all which take the information from known leaker TechNoir, who has successfully leaked things concerning both SE and Sony (and leaked info on FF7R Intergrade back in Nov 2020). While he is not a direct source, that’s where I got the rumor from. He has a pretty good track record for his leaks.

yup, and google that rumour you end up with about 5000x more posts discrediting the “source” than confirming it or even accounting it as credible
still doesn’t change sony never owned squeenix, sold their minority shares years ago, so as such “how does sony control sqeenix” question/point still seemed kinda valid :man_shrugging:
-not like i have a dog in this, i don’t care if sony buys them or not, the reasoning just seemed weird tho, since for all intents and purposes squeenix is their “own man”
