Since @Danacscott asked in another thread where it would’ve been off-topic: recently I’ve been buying/reading art reference books of various Victorian things, and the books I bought just before the Steam sale were mostly that.

I’m currently reading Early Structural Steel in London Buildings: A Discreet Revolution, and before that I read History As Hot News: The World of the Early Victorians Through the Eyes of the Illustrated London News, 1842-1865, which is a collection of abridged articles.

I also bought the photo book Benjamin Brecknell Turner: Rural England Through a Victorian Lens, and The Gothic Cathedral, which isn’t as relevant to my needs, but should still be interesting. I haven’t gotten to reading those yet.

My ref books for this Victorian-esque project are taking up most of a book shelf now, space is getting to be a problem ;~; And this is just a side project. Meanwhile, for the projects that are actually important to me, I have barely any ref books because there’s just way less material available on those topics, and what does exist is mostly too expensive.

Architecture and clothing from the Victorian is pretty cool. Hope there are tons of photos for reference.

The closest to ‘vintage’ reading I’ve done has been for crochet or tatting for lace making. Tatting is soothing as heck. I dunno why.

Here hoping that it doesn’t suck and stays true to the source material. I’m happy to see the movie cast coming back for this though

I don’t care what anyone thinks about it. I’m loving the One Piece live action show. It captures the spirit of the show so well. I’m on episode 3, and everything is great. They have to cut a lot of stuff out, but they seem to be doing so respectfully. I guess 1000+ episodes and chapters is a little…uh…impossible to 1:1. lol

5/5!

I have been listening to the Melvins today.

I’ve been consuming so much spookiness/horror for the Halloween season :sparkles::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I recently watched the series “Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix and it’s sooo good

I read “Savage Island” recently that had a cool idea but poorly written end. I also read “Rock, Paper, Killers” which wasn’t even suspenseful. I’m now reading “Zombie ZA” about how to deal with turning into a zombie in south Africa :face_with_hand_over_mouth: and soon it’ll be Mexican Gothic which I just know will be :fire:

I need the next season of Yellow jackets soooo bad :weary::weary::weary:

Ooh. Lil Acorn more spooktastic than me! Have been recovering from odd fever. No have heat rash? I’d hate to go to clinic

Fall of the House of Usher. Edgar Allan Poe. Wonder if my using my friend’s Netflix is still okay.

This is all free stuff…Pluto TV, Freevee, Filmrise and Fawesome. Oh and Redbox. We pay about 50 bucks a month and we get over 18,000 channels. But you know what kind of groups I am on at Fakebook, so you know how that works. You need an android box etc…

Check on to those I listed above…

An Android box. Sounds like a lot of research. My mother would enjoy having a ton of channels but she doesn’t have WiFi

Orphan Black is back! Well, kinda of! I’ve been binging the show, it’s really good. There are so far loose connections to the original, but that could change. One of the main characters is a return though, so that’s a good sign!

Anyways, loving it so far, even if the pacing is a bit too fast.

Oh man, finally got time to watch Blue Eye Samurai.

Holy hell. Now that was incredible. I cannot wait for S2.

Oh man…

Rewatching Mare of Easttown.

I forgot how unbelievable sad and fucked up it is. It’s so well written, too, with such an incredible cast. I don’t know if it ever won awards, but the women playing Mare and Erin definitely deserved recongition for their performances.

EDIT

Just started up the Percy Jackson Disney show.

I have words.

Spoilers

CGI is okay, some of the kid actors can’t act very well, but other than that there’s some writing that’s not very good.

Percy watches his mother die, kills a monster like he’s known he’s a demi-god all his life, wakes up and without any form of emotion about what happened to his mother, gets up and decides “I’m finna find daddy-o now”. I’m sorry, but a 12yr boy who just saw a monster kill his mother isn’t reacting to that? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Why should I care about the mother’s death and her impact on Percy, when he doesn’t? Why should I care about a kid that can just shrug that off in the matter of seconds?

And before that when the mom was telling him how she met his dad and that he’s a god, they actually wrote out with a serious face, “You fell in love with God? What, like Jesus?”. INSERT LAUGH TRACK.

There are other examples of really poor writing. Well, poor as in “very generic” of a child’s book. I was never under the impression that children’s or young adult books should be written stupidly, always thought that since I was a child myself, so I cannot see that as a good execuse for this poor writing.

At this point, I really hope the books aren’t this bad. And yes…I never read them. When I was younger, my go-to literature wasn’t stuff like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson or Twilight or Hunger Games. So maybe I’m just not used to the really poor kids writing, I don’t know. But I could barely get through 2 episodes. -shrug-

Also watched Rebel Moon.

I don’t even know what to say. It was just so random. It was like someone sat down to write a book and said, “I’m going to put everything cool in here and not explain any of it. I just want the cool stuff”. Which isn’t necessarily bad, but there was no substance to the movie. It was over two hours of what felt like snippets of other work mashed together. lol

I’ve been watching the new Monsterverse show, and it’s great! It is even better that it connects to the movies, which I’ve loved, and made almost perfect by the fact that Amanda Overton is involved! I can’t wait to see my boy Kong appear, or so I hope he will!

Beyond that, just listening to music. I don’t care much for Benny’s lines, but this J. Cole’s part is fire.

I do be lovin’ Doja Cat’s work. There’s like 2 songs that I go “eh” for, which is crazy, because these days most artists annoy me.

Also, Tracy and her superb voice! <3

Haven’t been this excited to watch a show in a while, though I despise this trailer production, I hope the series delivers.

How to make an epic movie? Make sure most of the scenes are too dark to see what’s going on. :pensive:
