What are the most adventurous games you've ever played?

One of the classic adventure games I loved was Super Mario 64. Being able to tackle nearly any level in almost any order was great, and the free roaming “painted worlds” (so THAT’s where Dark Souls got that from) was great. I still love the game, and it’s one of the all time greats.

Agree with you on Shadow of the Colossus. There was just something about that silent horseback ride to each fight that made the game feel so engaging

Ico and The Last Guardian were just as fun to play through, but I recently found myself drawn to the world of Pillars of Eternity

But that’s the fun of it. It’s bad but in a good way lol.

Starbound is probably my favorite adventurous game in recent times. Having played it after Terraria it just felt like someone had broken all the walls down. There was just so much to do everywhere.

As a kid almost everything felt that way, I mean… just every Zelda ever.

”Take the fate of a human being, a thin pathetic line that contours and encircles an infinite and unknown silence. It is in this very silence, in an only imagined and unknown centre, that legends are born. Alas! That is why there are no legends in our time. Our time is a time deprived of silence and secrets; in their absence no legends can grow." Walter Ljungquist (1900-1974)

that sounds good. adventurous games are meant to make you so absorb into the world. Final fantasy got that for me.

minecraft is so popular. i guess the graphics dont attract me. Zelda is a very big game, sadly i never played it or got into it.

yeah true.
dark souls is one of the games i wished i played. but now i feel im too far behind, dont have time to go through it. there’s so much to learn. there’s a lot ofpatience required too. it is a great game, i know that feeling. like u said - so glad to see the sun again after being in the horrid dungeon. the art style is what really suits me - dark fantasy

environment - a map that is large enough, so u get the feeling of exploration. with that, it needs to set the mood. so dark souls have that, big world, mysterious places to explore, lighting and graphics to set the atmosphere

graphics - yes this is important. some people may be turned off by weaker graphics. its the artist’s job to make sure the art is consistent throughout the game. for example, not being just very good at the start and bland later on.

thrill - to be scary in some ways. u know the phrahse a movie is only as good as the villain. so the villain needs to have some intimidation. thrill makes the game more exciting.

story - things need a purpose. u need to feel gripped onto something. not just pointless wander although you can. but there needs to be some lore.

i already did. i mentioned my 2 favourite games. the points i laid out is just as a reference.
tomd raider has overwhelmingly positive reviews. that’s a good example but its not my favourite nor do i want to play it. then again, this is supposed to be a fun thread, so there isn’t a right or wrong.

so a good adventure would be, immersive - in graphics and environment, one that u can explore. it has “somewhat of a story” to get you hooked to the lore. somewhat meaning at least there needs to be something, but the more the better. take LOTr for example, huge lore but never a great game for the main trilogy. and then some thrill or action ya know.

yeah i know what u mean. FF7 and FF8 are some of my favourite games. theyre adventurous but not what u call an adventure game. the points are just for reference. graphics may also mean art, not just the technical graphic form we see. yeah they need a balance of all that. i agree, so story actually is most important. it’s what will lead how good the characters will be

Nobody hate, but the most adventurous game I ever played was definitely Ace of Seafood…
Don’t get me wrong here, I am 100% serious and honest, no sarcasm here…
For those of you unfamiliar with it: http://store.steampowered.com/app/450500/
I don’t think I can give enough context for why it is amazing… nor do I think I can do much more than simply say that if you have never played it, that should change.

Imagine a game like HAWX, but instead of being a fighter jet you are a fish (or in this case a seal), then you go around fighting stuff for territory and exploring a map filled to the brim with random fish and sea mammals, plus arthropods and cephalopods.

Okay, so user (myself) accidentally clicked the delete post instead of the edit key (touchpad and I are no longer on speaking terms)… and now I feel silly…

Btw is there a way to fix this issue? Anyone got any advice?

I can still see the topic on the edit button. So what do you want to do exactly?

You should be able to undo the deletion I believe. If not if you just look at the edit history of the deleted post you’ll see what was there so you can just copy it into the 2nd post easily.

Yes, there is indeed an undelete option on a deleted post awaiting the 24h countdown to oblivion.

If you click the triple dots, there’s an “Undelete” icon (I believe it looks like a refresh symbol).

YOU HAVE 24 HOURS. GO GO GO

Thanks, that is very helpful!
