The World Through Your Eyes

I can walk to Lake Erie! So, yes, it’s Lake Erie. Lake Ontario is Niagara on the Lake -St. Catherine area

And I remember going there a few years ago for the Shaw Festival, and went to a couple of shows, did some other stuff around the area. I just felt like everything was way more expensive just by the nature of being there, I am content to not live there and let those people bathe in their own money…

NOTL is very, very expensive. But it’s a beautiful area. It’s a touritist town. It’s good for a day trip from my place as long as you don’t mind paying 15.00 for a hamburger… :exploding_head: Sometimes we pack our bikes and a picnic lunch and enjoy the sights.

Pretty sure the burgers were 25 or more, and didn’t include any sides, we were there for about 3 or 4 days, did AirBNB, which worked out fine. but each meal we ended up eating a hole into our wallets. Eventually we bought groceries and actually cooked meals, on our vacation, lol…

We also had a meal at one of those vineyard restaurants, that was probably the most expensive standard meals we have ever had… It ran well over 100 per person…

The restaurant prices in that area are nutz. They even include a “Tourist Tax”.

We went to met some friends at the local IHOP. It costs us 18.99 for one breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast and hashbrowns. :exploding_head: NEVER again…

Edited:
The one good thing is they have the best fresh fruit. Strawberries, peaches, apples, cherries and. of course, grapes. The trick is to hit the little fruit stands in the late afternoon and their stuff is usually marked down because they want to get rid of it because tomorrow they will have more.

There was a farmer’s market not far away and we drove there for all of our fresh fruit needs, and got some nice dessert while we were at it, along with fresh fruit. That was great. Good thing that we never stayed at Niagara Falls, never needed to, we went there plenty while we lived in Buffalo, so we got our share of local tourism in without needing to plunk down for the extra taxes and fees.

My only thoughts on visiting Niagara Falls in the winter is, well, don’t. LOL! During that polar vortex some odd years back, we heard that the falls were frozen and we wanted to go see. Well, it was the worst experience of our lives, I am sure, by a long shot. many layers thick and completely bundled, any exposed skin still felt like it was being hit by tiny ice shards, as the falls were not actually frozen, but the ground was. We were on the bridge, trying to see. All of the mist that came up instantly froze and it was so slippery that we couldn’t get away, basically the wind dragged us all over, before we took tiny steps and eventually managed to get away from there. We warned a couple of other people who were going for the same reasons but they kept on going while we hurried ourselves away from there, only to hear, in the distance, the shrieking screams of the girl of the couple who decided to go toward it anyway–despite our very sincere warnings.

Here’s a few pictures of my summer. While it’s still somewhat sunny today, the mornings are colder and the weather is more rainy so summer is over for this time.

I went for a short weekend trip to Flåm, a tiny village that mainly deals with tourists now, together with my family:

And then a month later i returned with my brother and father to bike from Finse (1222 meters above sea level) all the way down to Flåm:

This is an old disconnected railway that used to connect Flåm to the railway going between Bergen and Oslo. The landscape was beautiful up there, but cold and wet.

Glad we filled our bird feeders yesterday. It’s snowing and they are busy today. We haven’t had a bird strike a window in 2 years unless it was been chased by a hawk. I don’t clean the outside of my windows. I do hose them down and I clean the inside but I don’t make them shiny clean. However if you feed the birds and want shiny clean windows you might check this out…

Finally few of my hot sauces ( well i’d assume they are not that hot ) arrived. I guess they are widely available in US but are a but trickier to get down here.

Cholula is pretty common here in Sweden, it’s a pretty good one, though I prefer the smoky chipotle variety. Never heard of or tried the other one though.

Yup,i was eyeing chipotle one as well so i guess it is going to be next one on my “menu” . Tapatio is supposed to be pretty mainstream in US too from what i understand so maybe few of our american friends can elaborate further about it.

Cholula is pretty common here. And I feel like I’ve seen the other before. I’m not a big spicy food person, but I know someone who is.

I can also see what’s on the shelf at the store.

I don’t believe that actually answers your question though.
