It’s man made
It’s not common to find them at home, though some people might have them.
It does do a job in that we use them to perform a function. They create angular momentum, the forces of which can be used to stabilize vehicles like helicopters and airplanes.
It can be powered electrically or mechanically.
It has one wheel.
You cannot drive it.
Well done. You have correctly guessed the Mystery Word.
I look forward to your round as GM.
Well done to everyone that took part, there were some great guesses.
Here is a screen shot of the encrypted word.
The reason I gave you a face earlier was because of your initial guess at Spinning Wheel!
In my mind you were like a synapse or two away from gyroscope!
The spinning wheel is a device to spin thread or yarn from wool or natural fibers. Not really particularly close to a gyroscope. I was considering it as an answer a few days back but couldn’t find a single word name for it anywhere. I also had record player in mind but discarded for the same reason, phonograph never crossed my mind.
I was not aware that there existed wheel-free gyroscopes, or at least that such a device would be called by the same name. Turns out there exists a fair variety of them.
