On a high-end desktop with lots of RAM to spare, you probably also donāt have a need for a specialised browser with a RAM and CPU usage limiter :/ So, aside from what is basically a built-in ad page (GX Corner) and Twitch integration, this doesnāt really do anything.
Well, at least for me who was already an Opera user, itās an small upgrade. I get it that most people wonāt change their current browser for something like this. But we never know what this could lead to, Google Stadia is coming and is possible that they could tweak their browser towards gaming as well, who knows.
And as always, you can customize what you have, if you donāt want to see news or ads, whatever on that page, you can disable it. I had disabled some stuff when I started using Opera because it was irrelevant to me.

Sad there seems to be no āimport from Firefoxā option.

Does it work on Linux? canāt find mention of it on a first glance but donāt want to assumeā¦
Thanks for sharing, Enki!
Since itās beta phase, I donāt think so, but hopefully it will. Default Opera is available, why wouldnāt the GX be as well. Right?
Does anyone here know if thereās a way to disable the āgx cornerā? I wouldnāt browse these ānewsā sites willingly much less have a dedicated tab for them.
Edit: Took me a while to figure out but there is an option to only display gx corner in the sidebar, then you can disable the sidebar. But I guess youāre out of luck if you actually want the sidebar.
You almost got it figured. Display the GX Corner on the sidebar then right click the sidebar, uncheck the āGaming Cornerā option, and voilĆ !
Oh excellent! I probably still wonāt use the sidebar but itās good to know.
Iām gonna try to use this as my main browser for a while and see what I think. I mean itās just chrome so I guess itās not that big of a change.
Resurrecting this topic.
Saw angryjoe advert this. It looks like all the promised features from OP are in and it is in early access. Even integrated discord.
But I want to know what @Enki thinks about it. Are you still using it? Is anyone else? Iām on the brave browser but Iām always on the lookout for alternatives.
Yeah, Iām still using it. Did not have any problems with it and feels much more performance-friendly compared to other browsers I used before. Highly customizable, the features I use the most are GX Control (Limiters), Discord/WhatsApp integrations and Forced Dark Pages (tries to convert every webpage into dark mode, does a good job most of the time). Itās chromium based, so you can use most chrome extensions without issues.
P.S.: Iām bad doing reviews :v
The limiters are a bad idea in practice. If your browser needs more power and memory, but is being commanded not to receive it, itāll crash the browser.
I only have it active while Iām playing something, so I usually only have one or two tabs opened and maybe discord, never experienced any crashes. You can just turn it off when itās not necessary.
While in the past, I couldnāt even afford to play some games with a browser opened because I donāt have much ram.
Well Iām convinced. If youāve used it for so long, that in and of itself is proof it has some value.
Since it is early access now, I wonder what itās final product will look like.
Personally I see integrations of various services and such a deal breaker, I really do not want to use discord or whatsApp or whatever else so why would I want a browser with these things loaded up, integrated and primed to collect data on ALL my browsing activity?
If those sites want to offer plugins to integrate themselves into your browser then their users can use those, why bundle it into the browser itself?
Looks promising but I think Iāll download it once itās finished.
I like Opera, but stopped using it - not too potato friendly.
Took them long enough to add something like this. Was probably one of the first feedbacks I gave haha
Still baffles me how Spotify doesnāt listen to its consumers and bring a lite version / mini player.
I saw this gx thing in the past downloaded it and deleted it again because I didnāt get what it was lol but maybe it will be better once full release
I do use opera though on one of my laptops itās got decent free āVPNā (not really a full VPN just a web one but can still have use) and itās clean and such
I used to use Opera; then, I found Vivaldi. I still have Opera installed just never think to use it.
Weird enough I did the reverse aha
I used to use vivaldi it did have a lot of neat features such as tab stacking but I completely forgot about it. I moved to opera partly because my university friends were using it. But iād say vivaldi is good too. I donāt use the web browser on my pc much anyway as im mostly mobile and at work pretty much forced to use chrome.
