I know that wouldn’t happen in Florida. I have seen many a habitat destroyed for housing and such.

This. In my area they recently increased the radius of protection around certain birds’ nests, can’t build anything (including temporary structures) within that. It’s still a lower radius than ideal, but since most land here is sold in fixed-size plots, it means many plots are basically unusable, giving the birds a lot more space than the legal requirement.
