Disclaimer: this thread will hopefully be continuously updated as more information comes out.

:star: IGF 2019 :star:

The nominees are looking especially good this year so I thought it was worth making a thread for, especially with threads such as “What are your all-time favorite indie games on Steam?” & “It’s 2019 – Time to hype new releases!” popping up.

To those unfamiliar, here’s the short version, straight from their website:

UBM (producer of Gamasutra.com and the Game Developers Conference) established the Independent Games Festival in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers.

We wanted to create a similar event to Sundance for independent game developers - and that’s just what we’ve succeeded in doing with the Independent Games Festival, which has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash prizes (and brought major exposure and a much higher profile) to a multitude of indie and student game developers who have entered.

:small_orange_diamond: What are categories for 2019?

  • SEUMAS MCNALLY GRAND PRIZE
  • EXCELLENCE IN VISUAL ART
  • EXCELLENCE IN AUDIO
  • EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN
  • EXCELLENCE IN NARRATIVE
  • NUOVO AWARD
  • BEST STUDENT GAME

The finalists were announced on the 3rd of January, and you can check the complete list over here. Source:

:star: UPDATE: Voting is now open for the Audience Awards! :star:

:small_orange_diamond: When is the awards ceremony and how can I watch it from home?

Great question! I’m really smart for thinking it up. Patting myself on the back for this one.

The awards ceremony itself will happen on March 20th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM San Francisco time.

As for how to watch it I forgot how I did it last year so… hopefully we figure it out by then?

:small_orange_diamond: Finally, I know it’s early to tell, but who do you think will win this year’s Seumas McNally Grand Prize?*

  • Minit
  • Opus Magnum
  • Noita
  • Return of the Obra Dinn
  • Hypnospace Outlaw
  • Do Not Feed the Monkeys

* It could also be “who do you want to be this year’s winner?” Feel free to vote even if you haven’t played or heard of any of them. (:

?! … what?! The… what?!..

It’s almost as worse as steam awards!. Blasphemy @coralinecastell!

There’s no even Mark of the Ninja Remastered … so another person I know as well should add to the letters!

Yeah I’m with @onLooSe on this one, the IGF is a completely insular circle jerk event where a tiny clique of people give awards to their friends.

Heh fair enough. I usually enjoy watching it, though. Call it a guilty pleasure. :woman_shrugging:

Man, Return of the Obra Dinn looks beautiful. Don’t even know what it’s about but I want to play it.

Is a detective game where you have to uncover the fates of the crew of the Obra Dinn, it’s a wonderful game.
