time cat as a rudimentary stopwatch is a neat idea, will definitely be using it in the future. So far I’ve been using the following for when I need a quick and simple timer sleep [seconds] && paplay /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo/alarm-clock-elapsed.oga.
Also in addition to aafire mentioned in the link, if you have libcaca (that’s what the package is called under Arch at least) installed you should check out cacafire, cacademo and cacaview for ascii pictures
. Your distro of choice might split up the actual lib-files and the binaries to two different packages too.
