Age of Wonders is a 4x strategy game that’ll suck up 3 days before you even notice, so if you intend to try both games I’d recommend you try Icarus first.
I’ll be trying it out myself, if you’re interested in trying out the co-op aspects of it I wouldn’t mind having a go at it.
The previous game Age of Wonders: Planetfall is my most played game on Steam. AoW 4 is sitting in my list of owned games for almost a year, untouched. I give you a warning. Its so addictive.
Gave Icarus a try and it’s a bit of an odd one. Not merely because you’re in a space faring civilization with the ability to send people in personal drop pods to new planets that are also capable of launching back into space, but you’re going into the survival crafting aspect of the game at a stone age level.
It’s also a little weirdly mission based, there is an open world option where I guess you can have the traditional survival crafting experience. The primary intended experience however seems to be exploring various planets and essentially starting over from scratch each time. Though you do earn some sort of currency that lets you unlock better things to take with you on later missions, but it seems to be a pretty slow process.
Managed to reach a tech level advanced enough for starting forest fires.
