Necroooooo! So recently Enter The Gungeon received a big ass update called Advanced Gungeons & Draguns which introduced new items, guns, synergies, enemies, floors…
It’s basically like Afterbirth for Binding of Isaac, but free and without the large amount of bugs and without breaking the coherence of the overall design forcing you to get used to it instead of doing it right the first time. Shots fired.
Anyway.
The update really revived my interest in the game, just like I revived this thread, because the one thing that I kept playing Enter The Gungeon for was the discovery. There were so many easter eggs and hand-made events, beyond the shitload of popculture references and this update added to that pile of greatness.
After a hiatus of probably a year or two I’ve played 20 hours already and I’m loving it.
How about y’all? Any rogue-like afficianados around that jumped back into the gungeon?
Pilot is the best for all the secret rooms, he gets those lockpicks, just go attempt it, if it fails carry on, if it doesn’t use a key and go down for only 1 key.
Damn, I swear I’ve searched for threads, but must’ve overlooked that one since it wasn’t in the title. :S
And thanks for the tips, @kylehayman361, but they’re two years late, but I appreciate it! I’ve got 20 hours since the update, overall I’ve played it for 231 hours.
And without spoiling anything, you still have to unlock the easiest character.
However, I apologize for necroing. Will go through the other thread now.
I think the Pilot used to be super OP with that lockpick, but an update they did some time ago gave more key drops (I am talking about way before the AG&D update recently). (They added a fairly high RNG key + gun/item in brown chests, especially early in the game, before that, keys were so rare, that it was a headache.)
One thing to note about the key is that if you are trying to get into the Oubliette, the first floor shop will always have a key, unless you found one on the floor already from an enemy drop and picked it up. The rat does not take keys on the floor, just like hearts, so if you don’t pick up the key even with a drop, you are guaranteed one in the shop. That’s what I do all of the time, explore, kill everything, get a key drop if I am lucky, open up the shop, and decide what to do from there. If you see a shop early, just go in so you can be sure there’s a key in the shop. You don’t have to buy it right away, but once the shop is revealed, it doesn’t change, but that key is no longer always there if you pick up a key-drop.
I think pilot’s lock pick is less useful now than it ever was… I haven’t played the new update much at all, but I seem to see a lot more keys than ever before.
That used to be go-to strategy! I don’t know if it’s just good RNG, but I always get keys in the shop even after picking up dropped keys, so maybe they changed that, too.
Breaking chests is great now, tho. All the junk variants are so worth skipping a few guns. I recently got Junkan and the gold junk, plus that baby mimic and that alone almost won me the game.
I love Junkan, first time I got junkan was an oubliette run, broke both chests on the first floor to use the two keys to get into the oubliette. And a powered up Junkan is just awesome… So OP…
I didn‘t play the first supply drop, so Junkan was new to me, but yeah, there seems to be different kinds of junk, plus depending on the tier of the chest you can get health or items. Broke a green chest once and got a brown chest gun out of it.
Chests always had RNG potential to drop hearts and guns, I think… I still can’t believe the slingshot is a brown chest item, I broke a green or blue chest and got a slingshot out of it, I was totally ecstatic.
If there are different tiered Junk, then it would be new in the update. Junkan powers up with how many junks you are holding. I have only gotten Junkan 2-3 times, so can’t really say much about my experience other than I am a big fan and would love to see him more often. (Wait… can you ever get Junkan out of a chest? like opening it the normal way?)
After supply drop was the Payday 2 update. The payday 2 update was fairly small, but it also gave yet another way to render keys obsolete.
I really think the power of a single key has become significantly less with time since Gungeon was initially released.
