I’m considering purchasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which, I’m going to be honest, I was not expecting to pop up as a deal on Chrono. Anyway, I just wanted to know whether or not the game still has a thriving PC playerbase, as I know that many people play CoD primarily for the multiplayer. Also, a sort of sidenote I guess, is this a good place to get into the series? I’ve always been an outsider, but lately, I’ve been wanting something similar to this and I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity. Thanks for your time

After seeing this I went ahead and launch the game to see, and as far as I can tell there’s still at least plenty of people playing TDM, with few still playing the other game modes so make of that what you will.
Quick Edit: I should also probably mention that I wasn’t able to see any of the player numbers for one reason or another, so I can’t give an exact number outside of what Steam says which seems to average 400+ every time I see it.
