SpaceX is trying another new crazy stunt today, in about 40 minutes. The plan seems to be to catch the returning booster on a crane arm of some sort on the launch tower for faster turn around on launches. It’s either going to be an astonishing first time success or a spectacular failure, either way it seems worth watching.

It all went completely according to plan, every aspect of the mission went almost flawlessly. The booster docked with the launch tower as if by magic, it just kind of floated in on 3 of it’s 30-something rocket engines and found itself hanging perfectly still on a big claw structure.
Then about half an hour later the “space ship” part of the rocket made a well controlled and spot on soft splashdown somewhere in the Indian ocean. By spot on I mean they had placed a buoy with a camera on out there in the middle of absolutely nowhere and space ship touched down about 5 meters away from it.
It was all really quite spectacular.
