You wouldn’t have encountered the term otome in English literature studies, it’s a Japanese term, short for otomegemu 乙女ゲーム, Girl game. It has later been adopted as a genre for media aimed at a female audience. Most games of the genre are romance/dating type things, many but certainly not all sticking to the pg-13 zone.
@smellyworm I fully agree with your assessment, the first season was truly great while the 2nd season felt a bit tacked on and just kind of more of the same while lacking anything new to really explore.

I know, but not sure how to reword it, so I may scrap.
Spent the last few days reading and finishing Scum Villain Self-Saving System. Beautifully written, hidden characters revealed, plot holes filled and if you want, some extra for scenes you sorta know happened, but weren’t detailed. Also, in the extra is where the most explicit scenes appear. Easy to skim, it resolves a “confidence” problem for one of the MC’s. I guess. 
Edit: The hardest reads in the novel are the dreamscap sequences. So painful, poignant, but so ow.

Edit: AH! I forgot. Wang Yibo plays a stoic character in this drama, so if you want to see how Lan Zhan is feeling, you look to his eyes. Difficult role, but yer boy slayed it. With that in mind, you guys would see why this was so funny to me.
