Thanks for the feedback, will keep it in mind
Same here, had the same problem, took me like 15 mins to know whatās wrong , changed the qr scanner in the end ( my Coloring was bad enough )
OK itās done, the giveaway is now officially over, the winners have been notified.
Thanks to all who participated, hope you enjoyed it
i used inspect elements to remove the text, and started shaking vigorously my laptop, while flipping it left to right ( i swear, thatās what i did )
Huge thanks for the Giveaway, it was, really, really fun
Well, I did try this with a couple QR scanners that led me nowhere, now thatās sadā¦ Iāve never had to scan QR codes before so I didnāt know what methods would be the best.
The problem was that you also had to edit half of the QR code, because the top half had darker shades. I had to painstakingly edit the lighter parts of the top half back into white for the scanner to recognize the code. You couldnāt even use the fill tool to do it faster for some reason, you had to do it dot by dot.
Well that sucks, I tried it on mine and it worked fine.
I had a bit of problems with the qr code as well, but the app I used to scan it had a download function, and it worked with that.
Edit: also I havenāt received a PM yet, you might have to resend it
Hmm interesting, Iāll resend it nā¦ hey wait a minute!
yeah I didnāt get my PM either. Must be some lagg on Chronoās side.
Thank you so much for the ARG @PeteMcc ^^ It was my first one ever and I felt like the guy in the chair.
And thanks to the whole Giveaway Gang: @Punkster, @delenn13, @Gnuffi, @HappyCabbage & @YQMaoski
Here is a puppy for everyone one of you, lovely people
No problem reading it here, I decided the best way was to just point my phone at it on the screen, phone QR readers have a load of tech to work with shadows and lighting issues.
Also QR codes have a huge quantity of redundancy to correct for reading errors and corruption. The standard is actually really interesting (uh, if you are into that kind of thing that is)
WOW! I basically slept through the whole thing.
Congrats to the winner and @PeteMcc for doing the entire thing.
I will try to do better next time. I swear!
Hey no problems, like I said you guys were running all the previous ones, it was my turn to step up. Iāll try and do more in the next ones.
Dittoā¦ I woke up to thisā¦ lolā¦
Thank you again @PeteMcc for creating these puzzles, I know making them is very hard and a lot of work. TOO EASY THOUGH!
I think I wound up being one of the first to solve everything, more by virtue of spotting the thread early than by being good. Did you have an expected TTC? I think it took me about an hour and a half.
Hereās how I went about it.
First puzzle
I was pretty certain straight off the bat that these were ore textures from a game. Initially I thought of minecraft, but the texture res was far too high to be the standard textures and I think thereās more of them than there should have been. It was years since I played minecraft last so I donāt know how much has changed since then. It hadnāt. I tried image searching a few of the textures to see if anything would show up but nothing did. So I tried to just assume gemstone names and spell a word with the letters, ran into Gold and whatās that red thing? HOLD the phone, isnāt that hellstone? Oh yeah these are Terraria textures!
I went back later to see what your hint was all about, found your profile message and the number I could only assume was Terrariaās steam ID, didnāt bother to check though.
Second puzzle
This one tripped me up a bit at the end. I knew the warner sister dot on sight, but couldnāt remember the name of incredible Jr., a quick search confirmed his name as dash and that made the whole thing obvious to me. Dot, dash, morse code, which then obviously makes the gentleman on top inspector Morse. Just set to work on transcoding the coloured blocks into dashes and dots so I could feed it into a morse translator site. I think most, if not all, such sites gives you all capitals returned because morse code is not case sensitive. The URL sure was though!
I thought for sure something was wrong on Peteās side of things and told him as much. Took a few minutes off to see if heād respond and fix his site redirect. He didnāt. Well I tried a few more things before I thought of changing to lower case, even tried to force a space into the URL because there was this weird stray white block at the end of line 3.
Third Puzzle
I immediately saw the base 64 replacement and stashed that away in my mind wondering in what, if any, way thatād be relevant. This is another puzzle that padded my time a little because I first tried to patch together the QR code in paint only to find that paint didnāt preserve the edges well enough for a QR reader site to accept the image. So this is where I had to go and get Gimp installed again, @xist. Redoing all the work a 2nd time and thatās that. I found myself a little disappointed to find the base 64 thing didnāt seem to be used.
Fourth puzzle
Oh well of course this is where the base 64 is used, that was kind of neat. I donāt recall exactly how this puzzle looked but wasnāt it just a long string of gibberish? All you had to do was to feed that into a base 64 decoder and youāre done. I think this one was probably a little too simple, but the tie back to the earlier site made it fun anyway.
Fifth puzzle
I really liked this one, I had no prior knowledge about any of these bands and songs so going searching for it was a lot of fun. There wasnāt much of a thought process involved to describe, just look up what each segment said and find what number they might reference.
Finale
This one took me a long time though. I recognised the background image for a āmagic eyeā or stereoscopic image at once and just downloaded it to have a look at it. Unfortunately I have a suffered a little damage to one of my eyes which distorts my eyesight a bit, my brain largely corrects things so I see mostly fine. But it makes perspective trickery and trying to force focus almost impossible for me.
I donāt know if you know that the image you put up contains meta data about the site and settings you used to create it. So I went there hoping to find a reversal option. I didnāt, but it did have a lot of other stuff to read, so I ended up on a little detour there reading his blog.
Well eventually I found another tool to do what I needed and finally got the email adress confirmed. Though it looked like just random letters to me and I was rather unsure about it, but it made more sense once you responded as Bill Waterson.
All in all I had a lot of fun with this one and it gave me a start to the day that put me in a good mood that lasted for most of it. So thank you once again, @PeteMcc your effort was well appreciated.
I echo everyone elseās sentiments, it was a really well put together set of puzzles. I was working on the Saturday that you opened this up, but managed to do most of it in lulls at work on day 1 and finished when I got home. As people have mentioned, the only real hiccough was the difference in colour of the two halves of the QR codeā¦and also not being familiar with Terraria I really needed that clue. Every other image, Morse, Dot, Dash was google-able. The Terraria blocks yielded nothing when I triedā¦
Glad i m not the only one solving this at work
