Not sure if there are any Marvel fans here but I just finished Loki.

I definitely do recommend it if you are a Marvel fan, however, I do feel that at times the writing could have been better and that the ending felt a little rushed. I may be in the minority on that though.

I’m also going to say what probably doesn’t need to be said, if you do want to watch Loki or any of the newest Marvel shows I would say that it is necessary to watch at least most of the Marvel movies. Personally, I recently watched the entirety of the Marvel movies in about a 2-month time span.

I’m also just about to start watching season 2 of Outer Banks, I’m looking forward to that immensely, hope it delivers on my expectations.

Jungle Cruise is pretty good. Obviously a kid’s movie, with the ham-fisted kids jokes but that’s okay and it had its fun moments. I enjoyed its quirks, as it reminded me of a really kid friendly version of The Mummy. It even had the know-it-all sister and the goofy brother types.

Just finished watching a movie called System Crasher on Netflix.

Movie Discussion

It deals with a traumatized and violent child in child services. It’s painful to watch. Mental health isn’t taken seriously enough anywhere, and when it finally does, it’s already too late. When it happens to children, and they get violent or “troublesome”, they do not get an understanding party involved anywhere–not with schools, not with group homes and certainly not with potential foster parents. Mental health issues don’t just vanish with “training” and no amount of drugs will ever “correct” them. What happens then to the children who are deemed a “lost cause”? They’re abandoned, completely, where their mental health deteriorates more and more.

Children should never have to experience any of this…

EDIT

Just watched CODA.

People who make fun of, bully or take advantage of people with disabilities or impairments piss me off so god damn much. I could just punch someone or something, that’s how much it gets under my skin. :triumph:

Great movie of course. With actual deaf actors (the mom being the actor Marlee Matlin from Children of a Lesser God, which was also incredible), it shows–despite what people think apparently?–that deaf people can act. You don’t need to hear or speak to be able to portray emotion and a character.

Re-watching Parenthood. Yep…again. lol One of the best family dramas out there. Only one that I felt the families felt “real” in. Well, that and Shameless. Shameless is actually painfully accurate to what I know and have seen. lol Family shows like Full House, Gilmore Girls, The Fosters etc though just felt fake as hell.

Just finished the available episodes of Apple TV’s Foundation.

It’s actually pretty good so far. So, Apple CAN make great stuff. See, CODA and now Foundation. I look forward to seeing how far they can leave an imprint in the streaming world.

EDIT

Doom Patrol’s third season came out. It’s just as crazy and fun as before, love it! xD

This weekend I discovered that T-34 is free to watch on YouTube (with ads), where I am anyway. Even aside from my fondness of the T-34, I really enjoyed this movie.

I watched Midnight Mass. I don’t think it was even half-way as good as people were painting it. It was actually very mediocre.

I just started a new comic series called Monstress.

God damn.

I haven’t been this attached to a comic in…forever. The art is superb–I mean really, it is beautiful–and the story is so unique and well told. Everything about it is so imposing. I hope it goes on forever. lol

I recently watched “So I’m a spider, so what” which as titles go is absolutely awful.

And it certainly does not do itself any favours. You’re going to look at this and you’re going to guess exactly what it is all about. Cool another isekai with an OP protagonist, this time as a spider apparently, going to be exactly the same thing as that one with the slime I’m sure. I suspect a lot of people decided to not even give it the 3 ep leeway. Watching the first episode you’d rather quickly think you called it right out the gate, it is exactly like the slime one but it kind of tries to lamp shade it with some slightly awkward meta humor poking fun of doing the things it already is and will continue to be doing. Then it throws some really poor 3d CGI into the mix and this really should not have turned out to be a series I will now recommend.

All that is to say I understand why it is so poorly rated. However!

This series plays with asynchronous story lines which I for one find very intriguing and engaging. This fact is not made clear early on, it will be hinted at this being the case but at the same time they are trying to obfuscate it. Where traditional film technique spends time and effort on establishing shots to make sure their viewers can easily keep track of where things are and how events relate to each other. This one intentionally jumps between very similar looking scenes when it switches perspectives. A bad film maker will accidentally confuse their audience and make them unable to keep track of events, I’d imagine it takes at least some talent to do it on purpose while also not making it a frustrating annoying mess.

Anyway, the story isn’t exactly groundbreaking or anything but I found it told in a very interesting manner and the comedy was kind of hit or miss in the start but I found myself quite enjoying the wordplay and puns as the show found it’s footing. The show demands you pay attention and encourages you to try to figure it out and while I thought I had called the broad strokes early on the series did keep me guessing right up until the end. There’s no real big plot twists or anything, but the story keeps giving you just a little bit more insight and then twist things a little bit every time so you’re never quite sure.

All in all I had a really good time with this one even though it is a little bit on the child friendlier side than most. If you saw this one and discarded it based on the name alone I’d recommend giving it a shot. If you enjoy fantasy in general, isekai in particular then this one really isn’t bad.

Finished watching Squid Game, and thought it was pretty good, very gruesome in certain places. My wife had to stop at the very beginning, so I watched most of it on my own.

Even though the series ended with basically room for a season 2 development, I actually don’t want it to keep going. It is fine as is and I don’t want any more conclusions to what could be or may have been.

Anyway, if you don’t know what I am talking about or haven’t seen the end yet, also don’t read any of the news stories about Lebron James not liking the ending, since there are spoilers.

I couldn’t help but also think about Hunter X Hunter and the Hunter Exam, seems like what I saw from Squid Game doesn’t hold a lick to the content from the manga/anime. I am going to go back and rewatch Hunter X Hunter, since it’s readily available on Netflix as well.

Some of my office staff have been watching Squid game as well, I was a bit surprised to find out that everyone was watching it dubbed. I am going to guess that most people here watch it in the original audio subbed? That’s what I did. I am not big into watching anything dubbed, time and again I have experienced so much more in the versions with subtitles instead of dubbing. Let me know what you do!

Now I am just sitting here wishing for a Hunter X Hunter live action, though it may be too difficult to do…
