STREET FIGHTER V: MODERN MASTERPIECE? (YES.)
Ok folks, hot take: Street Fighter V is an incredible video game. Maybe the best Street Fighter of all time, if not one of the best fighting games of all time, but it wasn’t always this way. Why, it was only four and a half years ago when this game launched with 16 characters, bad netcode, and barebones features, but since then, things have changed. We’re no experts, but to us, this only goes to show that even though more and more companies are wanting to shove unfinished games out the door and then update them as they go, it can damage your reputation, even if the game eventually gets amazing.
For example, did you know they slowly added all the missing modes and more, cleaned up the netcode, and nearly TRIPLED their roster after four seasons of DLC? Isn’t that wild? That’s so many characters! In fact, even when fan speculation created a “Pikablu”-style made up character called Zen, even though he was never meant to be in the game, he STILL got official concept artwork! Is that dedication and fan appreciation? Uhh, hell yes.
And still, we have barely even talked about how good the game is itself. If you’ve never picked up a fighting game before, this is the Street Fighter to grab. It sacrifices none of the depth, while simultaneously offering the best new player experience the franchise has ever had, by adding more transparent mechanics and more forgiving combo links, and tons of new control and fighting styles. And when you couple that with incredible art, great music, and an undying community of committed players, where can you go wrong? Nowhere! So come on! Rise up!
