Music is most of the time just the games soundtrack. The only game that I can think of that I don’t listen to the music in is Civilizations V. With that I tend to watch a podcast on my other screen.
I mostly listen to it’s own music or just the sounds of the game - since I like PvP and every little bit of info counts there.
I try and do music, but I always find it hinders my performance (computer wise and in game). I tend to just keep my sound at about 20% and chill in voice chat. On the occasion I do listen to music I tend to play heavier music so I can play more aggressive haha.
Only for action oriented games where there is no voice acting. I like to listen to rock music for that kind of game.
Mute the sounds, no music either. Pure silence, deepest concentration strategy games FTW. Spent too many years on flightlines and jets, more deaf than Hellen Keller. Makes the Total War franchise still epic though, or XCOM or Civilization. Stellaris, Endless Legend, etc. Most games don’t need sound, try it! (I’m terrible at FPS tho, wonder why…)
Well, i never listen to music (ik, im a monster)
I love tactical fps games, which involve a lot of concentration, but whenever playing less stressfull hames, i just listen to some random podcast, or turn the tv on for that background noise support
I usually listen to Nightcore. But on 30% or less Volume than the game. For me its just a background music replacement.
Most games i play have visual indicators for every relevant information. If a game needs audio for “the full experience” i listen to the games own audio loop.
Also i don’t listen to external music when I get the first few times into the game, but after a few hours of playtime(or second or higher playthrough - depending on gametype) you kinda know all tracks.
I like to listen to many different types of music while playing games. What type of music I play depends not only on the type of game I’m playing but how I feel towards it. For instance, while playing PVP games or challenging fighting games, I like to listen to either listen to my whole catalog of songs (if I’m just casually playing), metal, heavy metal, hair metal, hard rock (most variations) and faster, more intense genres (if I’m tryharding or on a good streak), more soothing genres like classical, piano music or strangely enough ragtime music, or lastly no music (if I just don’t feel like turning on music or I’m more concentrated). While playing open world/sandbox games I like to listen to listen to faster music like metal, dubstep, punk, rock (most variations), etc… or slower music like classical, piano, slower songs from the genres mentioned prior depending on the amount of progression I would like to make in that time of the gaming session. Most other genres of games apply to the same rules as PVP. If you would like to know about a specific genre of game or music just ask. I’d be happy to reply.
I listen to the sweet tunes of the blood-curdling furious ear-splitting screams of my ragequits, as I rip open my demonically possessed jaw and sing the apocalyptic song that ends the universe.
… And then I reload the game and continue playing because I’ll never actually quit playing it despite threatening to do so every five minutes.
What the…
Hmmm depends on what game I’m playing or what I’m doing. For example, if I’m playing pokemon and leveling up or doing wifi battles or a card based game. Thats about it really. I enjoy in the game audio most of the times.
I raise the bar on ragequits to a demonic level. Don’t let me near Dark Souls, Overwatch, or… Counter-Strike.
You should find a copy of animal crossing and just go fishing for a bit. <3
If it’s not something I need to be focused in or just a casual game, I put some music in the background (mostly 80’s) but at a lower volume where you can barely hear it as I enjoy OST as well.
What I prefer is story-rich games and I like to be focused and immersed so in that case I turn the music off.
It depends on the game and how many times I have played it. On my first play I listen to the in game music but after that I will play with Youtube or Spotify open in the background. I some times listen to podcasts but I find them more distracting then just music.
I list to the in-game soundtrack almost exclusively. If I have to think about it I’d probably say it’s part of the immersion. Listening to my own music would generally pull me out of the game, so to speak. This is true even when the game’s soundtrack is composed of songs of the sort that could stand on their own, since they’re usually from a genre outside my usual wheelhouse. Subbing in my own music would significantly change the fell of the experience.
There have been a couple of relatively recent instances where I’ve muted the in-game music and listened to my own instead, but they’re fairly unique cases: driving games that use licensed, pre-existing music as if it were playing on the radio. As with real radio they inevitably include songs I don’t enjoy, and as a practical matter the track lists are limited. If I play the game long enough to get tired of the included soundtrack, I’ll sub in my own instead.
For me this all seems to depend on what game I’m playing. There is no set “pattern”.
However, when the game is heavy on story (like say an RPG) then I tend to listen to in-game music. Now if I was playing something that I won’t necessarily care to listen to (like say Path of Exile or CSGO) then I’ll put anything on the background - news, video game commentaries, actual music.
I don’t listen to music while playing games, but I love having podcasts or videos on. Favorite is Giant Bomb.
