That should work fine, there are some good pictures of ants at ‘baits’ like that.
Additionally, for anyone taking photos of insects and asking me questions about it. The general idea is the more in focus, and the more detailed the photo the better. In perfect conditions there will be both a profile and overhead picture of the insect.

So my bug is alright 
It’s really mostly an issue of them moving and me having to photograph at like 8x zoom so “every breath I take” really affects if it comes out blurry or not

if they move too much u can also give them quaaludes, just like professional photographers used to do with models (#SARCASM)
