Dead Cells - Daily Run Breakdowns

No.
I mean if you’ve read/watched even a fraction of the content in this thread and you’re not sure whether or not the game is worth 20e then there’s nothing I can say that will sway you. If you have not done so then all you need to do is start scrolling up and you should be given an ample view of what this game has to offer.

In case you had missed it, here’s @onLooSe least said exhaustive review on it:

no, I didn’t read/watch all 180+ posts and I am afraid doing so would spoil a lot, thus I thought asking would be the best choice. I will read that review tho, thank you

I’ve beaten this question to it’s death by now, but I want to say that this gameplay wasn’t done so far in this genre combination. If you love blinding fast action based and responsive 2D side scroller that’s procedurally generated with tons of replayability, you shouldn’t pass on this game. There’s nothing out there that can go close to this and the 2018 game award of being the best action game is totally deserved.
If you aren’t such kind of a player though… maybe the mobile version will be easier to grasp when it comes out.

Thank you very much and I can only add a bit of info about the DLC (because my review was before it got released) - The DLC added plenty to the game and it being free… damn - one of the best updates games ever got: new biomes; bosses; gear; weapons; even introduced costumes and what not.

The Daily Runs I’m doing won’t spoil much and it’s probably the best glimpse of unspoiled high level of gameplay you can get for this. Unlocking the daily runs is one of the first things you get in this game and you are incentivized to do them right away - earning new gear and weapons, even though you can go to biomes (areas) you never discovered yet.
I mainly discussed advanced in-game mechanics and weapons here in their current state throughout the development of the game, so I doubt there are spoilers present

And btw yesterday a new patch hit the Alpha branch again with plenty of changes >

The development is still going strong.

I know I’m not posting those here anymore, but I think this kinda deserves a watch, so here we go:

2019.05.28 Daily Run Breakdown - #1 - Full Cursed Sword Run

Unfortunately failed yesterday to record a successful run with the same concept (full cursed sword run) in the Slumbering Sanctuary Phase 2 with all the Golems and things, but I shouldn’t drink that much before recording, so lessons learned  At least I ranked number 3 there, but no proof I haven’t cheated without the video it seems

I know it’s the first biome, but I’m happy with the result… somehow managed to get extra 50-60 points more than previously what I had from the recording

Have a great… whatever you are having and cheers!

Hey @onLooSe, I am still practicing Spelunky, but definitely going to do a bit more with Dead Cells too!

I actually managed one of these daily challenges, 2nd attempt, and it’s a biome I am very uncomfortable in. First attempt ended with the first golem I came across… Haha. So I am happy with the end result.

#195

Slumbering sanctuary is such a cool biome from a visual design stand point but I absolutely hate the golems. Worst enemy in the game, so I tend to stay away from there.

Glad to see someone else picking up the dailies, I think Onloose was starting to feel lonely.

#196

I am just continuing to play the game on normal mode, 0 cells, haha… And picking up the dailies is hardly a real thing, more like got the urge to try it out because of all of the inspiration from onLooSe. I think he found someone to compete with fairly regularly who’s actually close to his level, a French streamer that he actually gave a plug to in one of his videos.

#197

Sounds fun… Slumbering Sanctuary phase 2 is always fun. Please do let me know if there’s a Cursed Sword from the start or close to it so I can bother with it

Yeah the french player is really good with really different style compared to mine  We both don’t have much time though.

Don’t forget to get your 3 blueprints from the daily!

#198

There was one cursed chest I saw, but i didn’t go near it, lol…

No cursed sword I saw. At least you know the daily is doable, since I finished it on my second try.

Though I was looking at the map and getting myself to the boss, didn’t have your usual speedboosts and couldn’t go explore the rest of the areas.

For right now I am just exploring in normal mode. About to head into the Clock Tower, which I absolutely hate… lol

#199

Damn… GL there… I’m better off going to the Forgotten Sepulcher even on 4 cells

#200

Clock tower is probably my favourite biome, I really like the vertical layout of it and there’s no big high hp enemies to worry about.

#201

But they hit so hard!

Anyway, I got eviscerated by the Hand of the King. Will get him one of these days, I swear.

I see @onLooSe is doing the daily now, I will check on the leaderboards later, probably to see him at #4, and saying how terrible that run was… haha… :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, good luck!

#202

So do I!
Also I really like the music in the clock tower with it’s castlevania inspirations.

#203

I hate that biome, it’s soooo much jumping and climbing plus the super annoying puzzle -.-

#204

#5 (#2 Legit, or I think so… you never know - https://dead-cells.com/daily/ranking?date=2019-07-06&first=false) … Can’t find the secret and too tired to search for it. 2 Cursed chests which aren’t really problematic so it’s meh in general for slumbering sanctuary. Total disaster today and good thing I can’t be arsed to record.

It’s good, but I’m used to this dark thing here in comparison >

You do the puzzle only once… so that’s more like personal crying compared to whatever information about the biome :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t like it 'cuz it can waste a lot of time and I’m not huge fan of the Cannibals on whatever difficulty. On top of them you have bombardiers while climbing… At least now they fixed a bit their 'nades, but still the combination is really brutal.

#205

A puzzle which required me to basically walk through the whole biome 3 times with my phone on record fucking sucks tho

#206

Or you know… do a simple scetch on piece of paper where are the bells and rate them on their tone and use the portals

#207

Why do you think did I RECORD the SOUNDS? I ran past every bell twice before I gave up rating the tone without being able to hear the others in quick succession. Felt like work lol

Just earlier today I found out wtf the Ossuary was for lmao I been there once and totally forgot about it until I looked up where to find that fkn rune.

#208

Puzzle? I never thought the Clock Tower as a puzzle. I just run through and kill everything, and eventually I am ready to progress when I am able to go through. :stuck_out_tongue: But yeah, those portals are super useful.

#209

I don’t really know if you are serious at all… It took me probably like 30 minutes to think how to respond to this without sounding like an ass and I’m confident I can’t avoid it at all

It seems you checked how to get the punishment shield blueprint in a biome you aren’t feeling comfortable to go in even on 0 cells difficulty… Ok that’s not unheard of, but when you consider the fact that you have probably less than 80% of all the gear unlocked - my opinion is that you kinda overextended for a bit and yet it’s not even close to being one of the hardest blueprints to get. You are complaining it wasn’t handed out to you without any effort or something, cuz it’s the only one that uses such mechanics to bring some minor extra interest to the biome in the first place.

It’s an alternative biome to the Ramparts when you go through the Promenade of the Condemned… or natural extension to the Prison Depths and my place to go through, 'cuz I find the enemies there to be far more suitable for my play style. It’s an option you aren’t forced to do when you get what you need from it anyway. Same situation with the Clock Tower, where I prefer the Forgotten Sepulcher instead. This is where the metroidvania aspects comes in the game. Gear choices can dictate your biome preferences as well, but I think that’s too advanced planning for now.

I try to see how you can have some complains about any of those things and yet I don’t see any justification. Try to stick to the game if you enjoy it … if you don’t, you are pretty much forcing yourself to something you will probably never like and get good at.

I’ve seen plenty of complains, but not a single one about those things. Try to have fun and adjust to the situations presented to you. There’s plenty of things to learn in this game … especially how to play in certain biomes.
